My boss did know i was pregnant. The job isnt on the books so i dont think i could do very much about it. And she lied about the reason for why she fired me..she said im letting u go because its too slow here and im not making enough money which is a lie because my cousin works there and she had told her otherwise, business isnt slow she just didnt want to say that she was firing me because i was pregnant. She also said to another girl who is pregnant at the place to wear a baggy shirt to hide her stomache, she doesnt like when people work there while being pregnant.

Most states are "at will" so they can fire you for no reason...

If you ever want to be employed again,  don't sue your employer for this.   On the employment application,  there is very often a question of "have you ever been a party in a lawsuit",  and if you say yes you sued your employer you're sunk,  and if you lie you're also sunk.

Just being pregnant does not protect you from being fired.  It's tricky.  Most companies bank on someone going quietly---  so if you seem bold and ask WHY you are being fired and if it has anything to do with your pregnancy, then they sometimes either back down OR offer a severance.  Sometimes.  Worth a try

Id say sue the company and file for unemployment if there was no real reason for u being fired.

And what I mean by it being expensive to sue is that most regular employees cant afford to sue them.

'our employer' is YOUR employer.

rockrose is right.  What I meant by my post is that employers can make a case that someone didn't meet their job requirements.  So, it is tricky to prove you are fired for being pregnant.  You have to know what our employers policies are.  But you DO have a right to ask for the official reason.

Most employers know that it is expensive to sue---  attorneys fees and all.  They bank on that even if you do have a claim.  I personally recommend a call to human resources if you feel their reason for firing you wasn't good enough.  You may end up with some severance that way.  Worth a shot.

good luck

I misunderstood your post.  When you say you "called out",  I guess that means you called to say you weren't coming to work.

That's cause.

Even if you get a doctor's note saying you were severely ill,  there are guidelines in some businesses/states where if you aren't there (for whatever reason except jury duty) you can be fired.

Your boss can simply say you were calling out too much or give a dumb excuse ss to why u were fired. Good luck

This depends on a lot of variables,  and I believe in my state you can be "let go" for any reason.

Did you tell your boss you were "taking it easy" because you were fainting?  If all he saw was that you were basically taking it easy,  that's cause right there to let you go.

In general,  do you have the reputation for being a hard worker and reliable?  (I'm not sure why I ask that - people who ARE tend to rate themselves lower than people who are complete slackers - who tend to think they are valuable employees).  So.  Since I don't know you,  have you gotten lots of favorable reviews and praise for being a good worker?

You can sue if it was due to your pregnancy they may have a law suit on their hands

Well, no.  There generally has to be a good reason to fire someone and they cant discriminate against someone for being pregnant.

But they can say things like "consistently late, missing work, not doing X job", etc. as reasons.  (not saying you guys, just that employers will give a reason if they 'need' to).

I'd call back and ask WhY, what is the official reason they are going to give and say you need to know this because "surely it wouldn't be because I'm pregnant . . . ".

My boss said something to me that I didn't like when I was 8 months pregnant and I said "hm.  I'd hate to feel threatened when pregnant, is that what you are doing?  If so, we need to meet together with human resources to discuss that."  My boss completely backed off.

I don't want to be a jerk but really, we have rights in this country. ya know?

I know how you feel, when I had found out I was pregnant; was bleeding so I took a day off. Then my boss texted me saying to drop off the rest of the keys to the office and left it to that.
