Milk,  ice cream or a tsp of baking soda in a cup of warm water work for heart burn too. I drink a glass of milk before bed,  only when my son allows me to,  and I don't get heart burn all night. Also the baking soda is a remedy my grandmother used when she was 17 and pregnant with twins. I have used it when I can't drink milk and it really does work.

Yes tums are safe providing you know you're not allergic to any ingredients. If I remember correctly the dosage is chew 2-4 tablets as required (just check the packet). However although it says do not take more than 15 in a 24hr period, I was told by a pharmacist that you should take no more than 7 a day during pregnancy. I had horrendous heartburn in my first trimester and I took the minimum dose of Rennie. Best wishes :)
