help please

I'm a ftm and my boyfriends mother is very persistent on picking the name of the baby. Everytime we suggest a name we like, she insults it because it's not what she chose. How do we nicely tell her to back off. We don't want problems,  but she's driving us crazy.

I really hate when people interferes with names, your mother-in-law already had her babies why can she let you have yours and choose The names that you like for your baby!! Smh!!  The good thing is your boyfriend is on your side so she shouldn't matter. And I'm sure when the  baby born she's going to teach you how to raise your child. Smh!!!
Talk to her let her know that you do not want her choose the name for your baby. Simple!!

Agree that it's best to be direct. Stop talking to her about names altogether.  Tell her you do not wish to discuss it with her anymore.  You could also try asking her if her mother or MIL named any of her children.  I'll bet they didn't.

I definitely like AshleyB's idea. It would still might be a little less shocking to your boyfriend's mother if you told her beforehand that you two will picking the name, although you appreciate her suggestions.

My husband and I have picked a name and we are keeping it a secret until he is out. Both of our families are very narrow minded and opinionated. This way if nobody knows than nobody can comment or tell us they don't like it or suggest a diff name. Once he is born, it's too late.

I have to agree with these ladies ^ It's better to set boundaries ahead of time when baby is born; & it's YOUR baby, not hers or anyone elses. If she's using insults to try to sway the naming of the baby, maybe not tell her the name as well.

Just sit her down and as nicely as you can just tell her that you both have agreed that it is your own decision on what to name YOUR baby and not anyone else's.  Sometimes you just have to tell like it is
