I was smoking over a pack a day, but once I found out I was pregnant the first time, I quit cold turkey. I just focused on the baby and thought of holding/playing with her every time I had the urge to smoke. But like someone else said, it really is a will power thing and you have too really want to quit. I was already trying too get pregnant so although I had not started to slow down yet, the motivation was already there.

And quitting cold turkey was the only thing that would work with me. Slowing down in the past just made me crave it more cause it was not fully off limits, but everyone it's different.

Four tips I can give you that works for people is:
1. Every time you get the urge to smoke, do something else you would not normally do right then like take a short walk. The physical craving only lasts a few minutes at a time so once you defeat that, you must have to worry about the mental one.
2. Keep a picture of your family/an ultrasound/picture of  positive test or random baby or even just an inspirational quote. Pull it out off your pocket everytime you have the urge to smoke.
3. Wear a rubber band or other loose bracelet around your wrist. You can use it to play with as a distraction on occasions you can't just get away for a walk.
4. Support groups. There are a ton of free ones offered and many even offer a packet and papers with more tips to help. You just have to look around a bit.

I was a smoker when I found out I was pregnant too. I smoked about a pack a day, maybe not quite that much but quite a bit. & quitting for me was so easy because just the thought of smoking made me sick for some reason. Even the smell bothered me. But I was also really sick at the beginning of my pregnancy. Just think about your precious baby & you'll be able to quit! Even cutting down helps (:

You can do it if it's what you really want! :) I was smoking a pack a day too. Went to the doctors, found out I was pregnant and on the way home I literally threw my entire pack out the window and never touched one again. I'm now 35 weeks and my baby boy is big and healthy :) Goodluck, you can do it!

I was alo a smoker when I found out. I was smoking about 12 a day. I didn't fully quit until about 12 weeks, but I cut down to 2 a day. I usually only smoked a couple of puffs and then put it out. It was hard but the driving force was my baby. You can do it, even if you feel like crap, you will get through it.
