bipolar and pregnant

So im 30 weeks (yay) but I've been off my meds for bipolar since we started trying to conceive, so about 9 months now. It's been hard to handle and my doc prescribed Prozac which is an antidepressant since there is actually no approved bipolar meds and im worried about taking it. I realize I need something to help but still worried and wanted some opinions and/or stories if someone else has taken this.

I took Prozac for anxiety and depression and it worked well for me for a couple of years. I eventually switched to Zoloft which was better for my anxiety. Though I stopped taking it as soon as I found out I was pregnant. Even though SSRI 's are considered one of the safest anti depressants that you can take while pregnant they have been linked to birth defects especially if taken during the first trimester. The Prozac may help your depression phases but probably will not do much for your manic phases. But I am sure it will be better than nothing. I am going to go the rest of my pregnancy without meds and I plan on breastfeeding so I will be off of them for a while. I hope you are hanging in there and I wish the best for you and your baby!
