hyperemesis gravidarum

I have been diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum! I am almost 9 weeks pregnant and have been struggling very hard with keeping and food and water down! I have seen my OB doctor several times and she has been giving me several different nausea and vomiting medications. I am not happy with taking drugs while pregnant but I have lost a extrem amount of weight and it has been stressed to me medication and iv fluids are absolutely necessary. So have been taking Ondansetron (Zofran) and another  prochlorperazine. I am very scared of what I have heard about these two drugs and my huge question is what medications do you pregnant women out there trust???

I was prescribed ondansetron by the hospital for hyperemesis from 6 weeks until 17 weeks after being admitted multiple times due to dehydration and starvation. I tried two others first but they did nothing. I could not keep anything down, even my own spit had my dry retching and I lost 15% of my healthy bodyweight. I still felt ill after stopping at 17 weeks but I was able to cope with it better as it had subsided a good bit.  Ondansetron is the generic version of Zofran and I asked my consultant the same question as to whether it was safe and I looked at numerous medical journals. Both she and the journals said no medication can be described as safe in pregnancy as no pregnant women will submit their pregnant bodies to a medical study (understandably!). I am now 34 weeks and my little girl is very healthy and while I've lost a lot of weight in this pregnancy and still under my pre-pregnancy weight (though it is now going on slowly) she is measuring large for GA, so very like my first.

HG is NOTHING like morming sickness. I had morning sickness with my first and I survived it easily. This pregnancy put me on my back with HG and unless someone has had it to the point of constant hospitalisations they won't get it. I would try not to worry, because your options are to take the medication and be able to eat enough for your safety and your baby's or to suffer from dehydration and starvation which would severely affect you both. Private message me if you want. :)

♡  first and foremost Congratulations!  I have the same thing and I'm  taking Zofran. I have heard and read numerous articles and talked to my Doctor and other doctors about my concerns. Seriously at first  I didn't want to take it and I waited as long as I could. Now I'm almost 17 weeks pregnant and still suffering from morning sickness ect and have continued to loose weight and have to be hospitalized because of it and Zofran seems to work the best. Feel free to private message me or ask me anything.  Best of luck.

In my opinion, if your doctor reccomended them you should be okay... But if I were you I wouldn't. Some women do get very sick in their firat trimester and lose a lot of weight, but you shouldn't worry about it. You should start feeling better and putting on pounds in your second trimester.
