iron supplements

My doctor prescribed me some iron supplements on top of my prenatal vitamins bc my last blood test showed i was a bit anemic. It's been over a week and the pharmacy had to order them, then they told me today that the specific prescription was no longer being produced and they are discontinued. They do have a pricier name brand alternative. I was wondering if any of you Ladies had the same issue and your doctor said you could find these pills from Walmart over the counter (or any other store)?

If you can handle iron pills (like if you have bad morning sickness or it's giving you crazy constipation) then I recommend Floradix Iron & Herb Supplement. It's liquid. You take a shot of it (couple of ounces) every day. Taste like juice (not super yummy juice...more like prune and berries. LOL!). Then eat more red meat and green leafy vegetables. You can get Floradix on Amazon.com or from a vitamin store like Vitamin Shoppe.

This is what I did after I gave birth. I was anemic after losing blood due to complications. My doctor prescribed me iron pills but I opted for the Floradix and red meat because I had a lot of stitches down there and I was really afraid of getting constipated because it was already painful to go to the bathroom. It worked for me!

I was told to take iron as well. I took CVS store brand iron. Just make sure it says "slow fe" on it. It releases iron slower into the blood stream. I've been taking it every other day because those plus prenatals will cause constipation.

Okay,  thanks for all the info ladies, really appreciate it! I'm getting ready to go see my doc right now so I'll ask how many milligrams for the over the counter pills.  I do admit my diet isn't the best in iron, i had pretty bad hypermeses for the first 6 months and finally just stopped throwing up. .. once in a while maybe.  But now that i can eat,  food mostly sounds terrible. Starving always buy after a few bites I'm disgusted. I'll try!

Eating iron containing food is the best. My iron was so low n I had to take iron pills three times a day. As a result I got so constipated n got hemorrhoids. So I stopped taking iron pills n started eating more greens veggies n chicken liver n I my iron is up with no constipation.

Either over The counter iron pills Or look up What food u can eat That's high in iron and If Ur able to keep It down Just make a iron rich diet. I was severely anemic, went to hospital and found that out. They gave me iron pills, with phenergen because id get nauseous and stool softeners because id get constipation. I HAD to take the iron pills and honestly it sucked because it made me throw up and so nauseous plus the constipation and id already been dealing with that enough during my pregnancy. I had to stop taking them because they made me to sick. My doc said now that im so close to due date its okay to not take them as long as im taking prenatals and eating food that has iron in it... so if getting pills or keeping them down is hard i would suggest eating more iron instead.
