is straining bad while pregnant?

I'm 9 weeks along and have been having light bleeding throughout my pregnancy and the doctors don't know what could be wrong. They said the baby looks fine so you have to be on bed rest and no stress or heavy lifting. Well I lay in bed all the time and I'm still bleeding mostly when I try to make a bowel movement, I push so hard that I bleed and have blood clots come out, is it possible to have a miscarriage from straining too hard???

I also had bleeding (spotting) my entire pregnancy.  It definitely seemed to be made worse by lifting or being on my feet too long. The dr.s told ne everything seemed fine though but I ended up miscarrying at 6 weeks :/ I would've been 8 weeks today.  so please do your best to get your rest and no straining of any kind!! I'll be keeping you in my mind and hopeful for a healthy little one!

Yes it is possible for miscarriage to happen from straining and you can also faint while on the toilet due to your vasovagal reflex...this is very dangerous bc you can hit your head and do serious damage to yourself. I agree with Katie, a stool softener can be helpful. Try to drink lots of fluids to keep water in your bowels to loosen them up...dry bowels tend to harden and cause strain. If you feel your going to strain...try breathing, relax your muscles, carry a bottle of water w| you, listen to music, read, etc..to keep your mind off straining and to relax. I've also heard warm apple juice or prune juice is helpful. With the way you're going hemorrhoids are coming for you, I'll look into getting some prep-h as well. But always remember to watch your fiber intake and drink plenty of water! Do not eat more fiber than the water you drink! Absolutely, positively, do not strain! Please for your health and your unborn! This is dangerous and even life threatening!

You should take stool softeners so that you're not having to push hard.
