married/husbands

I've read loads of posts where young girls are married or referencing their husband etc...

Do people get married younger in America? Or do people just say husband for partner?

I'm quite confused!  Also what does SMH mean???!!! Driving me crazyyy x

Its more uncommon for younger women to be married. But I think a lot of us get married around 19-20 years old. I got married at 19. I turn 22 in July. People have found it unusual. But my Husband and I are very happy!

SMH = shake my head. And girls get married at all different ages.. If they are referring to someone as their husband they probably really mean their husband, usually don't refer to boyfriends as husbands. I'm 22 and engaged but not getting married for a couple of years!

Depends what you count as early to get married. Some are married and others are just referencing their partner. SMH is shake my head.

In Texas when you live with your partner there's this thing called common law marriage.. we refer to each other as husband and wife without legitimately married but your considered Married.

Kayj14 thats young! But fair play! :) I can't even get an engagement ring of my boy!
Most people here are in there mid twenties before they move out...  unless they are young parents!

I just wonder are all these young people actually married etc!  (I'd love to marry but we definitely can't afford a wedding yet!)

Briannaleigh I love your name!!! :)

I say husband to my significant other because we're considered married in Texas. Were living together, we say we are married and that's how we address each other and that's how common law marriage is assumed to take place as marriage. Although we do plan on,getting married we have not officially made it "legit"..

Years ago they did like my mam n da were 20&21  but now people are lates twenties mid thirties. ..

I live with my boyfriend four years - joceekittykitty therefore we would be considered married in texas? Thats so strange to me- here its just co-habitation :/  although I would definitely want the ring lol

I got married at 24, which I thought was a good age. I turned 25 two days ago. I could never imagine myself getting married at like 19 or 20 or even 21. I still had growing up to do and a life to live on my own. I finished college before marriage, which was a very big goal of mine and everything else just fell into place! :) My husband got married at 20 to his first wife and that ended in divorce, obviously. I think environment and situations are partly due to why people get married so young.
