maternity leave pay

Does anyone else have IMRF (Illinois municipal retirement fund) through work? It pays for disability including maternity leave. Anyway theres a 30 day waiting period with no pay then you get 50% of last years salary but its only for 4-6 weeks (which is included in the 30 days of no pay). So technically i will get my benefits for only two weeks at the most. Im just upset.  How can they or anyone expect a mother to return to work after 4-6 weeks of giving birth to her child?! My employer will allow longer but obviously without pay. Two weeks at the most at 50% salary? And then the rest $0? Maybe im being irrational but i just feel this is not right! Am i missing something?  Are there more options?

I have imrf.  During my first pregnancy I had tons of sick time.  I could use that towards the first 30 days.  After 6 weeks I could use vacation time. It ducked to use up so much of my time but that's how we got by.

I live in IL and work full time. I get fmla  while on leave but no pay. I'll get any vac/sick days and that's it. Needless  to say I may look for another comp if I return to full time work. Because  to me they don't  appreciate  their employees. Good luck!
