natural labor. NO drugs !

When I say natural labor I mean no drugs what so ever. For some reason lately I hear women say natural labor and they used epidural. I guess the definition was updated. ... Anyways. First time mom and I really really really want to have my little girl with no drugs. Deff a big NO to epidural. Yea I know some will say why go through the pain if you don't have to well we were designed to have babies so we should know how it feels. Ive been looking at some videos and reading but I want more advice from already mom's that had their babies with no drugs. So I can try to be as prepared as possible even though I'll prob forget everything when feeling all those contractions lol no negative comments please ! I'm looking for support not negative Nancy. Thanks :)

I had a beautiful natural birth experience with my first last year. Check out Ina May gaskin and the Bradley method. Breathing and repeating.... I am strong, I am capable, my body was made for this....helped me to focus and allow me to get through. The contractions are the hardest part... It feels great when it comes time to push cuz you know you're that close to meeting your baby. Good luck and God bless!

Look into a book called Hypnobirthing the mongan method. It gives you tips on getting thru labor naturally using relaxation techniques. I'm halfway thru the book and 32w 4d along and practice these techniques during Braxtons and have noticed a huge difference.

Let us thank God that we're in a developed world.from where I come from most women don't make it through child birth and the same with their babies too. Women don't get the option for an epidural so they do it without any drugs. What I am trying to say is that so many things do go wrong and when it does,  the mom or the baby have to pay for it. So, over there,  our prayers are for the mom and baby to come out of it alive and healthy and not  the process of the whole delivery. This is my prayer for you and your baby too.

They probably thought you meant natural labor as in vaginal birth.. I get that a lot too.. I ask if it was a vaginal delivery before i ask if it was natural lol.

I had my first with an epidural and my second at home with no drugs. The second birth was so much better! I am pregnant with number 3 and planning another home birth with no drugs. Yes its painful but its temporary pain and its so nice to be able to move around and be aware. The baby seemed more alert too. warm water helped with pain and also pressure on my low back. I liked feeling like I was more present and that I could do what my body was designed to do. You can do it! I am a big baby about pain but I did it and plan to again.

I completely understand what you are saying.  I have a very high pain tolerance too,  and would have gone completely natural except after laboring,  it was clear my hip structure was too narrow to deliver a full term baby so I had an unplanned c-section.

Here's the thing.  If your labor goes fairly well,  and your baby's heartrate is good and strong,  and you don't have to have pitocin to increase your contractions to make labor progress, you should be able to do it with no medications.  Once some things start to go south - like your contractions stop at 7 cm,  or your baby is clearly struggling with heartrate going near or below 100 during a contraction,  sometimes interventions are required.

I'm cheering for you.  I hope everything goes well, and you can deliver a healthy baby without drug interventions.

But if you have to have them?  Forgive yourself.  And be grateful for modern medicine.

Thank you ChefBlu ! :) and yes I understand that sometimes stuff happens and I can't control if an emergency was to occur but I mean as of now I've never had an issue. My baby and I are healthy and Im not trying to sound like superwoman but I can tolerate pain. I prefer to go through that and risk having a complication later because of the epidural. My thing is if you can why not go full natural. Some don't even hesitate and want the epidural right away. I've made my birth plan and hope and pray that I can go through with it

Everyone's body reacts different to birth so just keep an open mind :) I planned natural as well and was against epidural but I had to be induced and back labor came on so fast all at once. My husband knew when I looked like I was gonna pass out. I was hesitant but knew I didnt have the stregnth being so tired and took epidural at about 7 centimeters. I got to rest and took less than 2 min to push out a healthy baby. I had no after effects like some people do. I am going to try without this next time tho cause every birth is different but not many things go as planned lol Good luck to you! :)

I wanted to have a natural birth with my first and due to preeclampsia and pulmonary edema I needed an emergency c section at 34 weeks. She was fine but I was in really bad shape. This pregnancy, I'm high risk and so far doing well but I have no choice but to have another c section. I wish I could experience normal childbirth. Good luck to all of you =)

How about you go in with the intention of natural (remember your breathing exercises!) but then when you're there if you find its too much and you need some pain relief then get it. Don't feel bad if you need it. Or if you decide you don't need anything then that's ok too.

It's truly an individual decision based on each woman's labor. How a woman decides to go through labor is as individual a choice as what name she decides to give her baby. So some will opt for natural and others will opt for help and others may not have a choice due to unforseen circumstances. Either way, it's not wrong to do it one way instead of the other.

In the end the only truly important thing is that mother and baby make it through delivery. How they get there isn't as important.

I have four children. The first I had completely natural and it was an amazing experience. The last 3 I received the epidural, which also had its benefits. Thus pregnancy I'm considering natural again. I'm glad I got to experience a natural birth.

I gave birth two months ago to my little boy ALL NATURAL! no drugs whatsoever and it was an amazing experience. Just remember to breathe and relax. Remind yourself that your body was made to do this and the pain is only temporary. Message me if you have any questions I can help with :) good luck!

I think it's really important to keep an open mind. I know so many people who wanted to go natural and couldn't and are really upset with the way their labour went. I never said what I would or wouldn't do with my first, I didn't know what to expect.
I managed to go 23 hours completely med free but my body was exhausted and I had to get some pain relief, it wore off at the end so when I pushed her out I was med free. My labour was 36 hours in total and in have had major complications and problems, my placenta didn't come away for ages, resulting in having away huge medical team push on my tummy after she was born and me needing meds to help it resulting in a massive blood loss (close to having a blood transfusion) and My daughter also got stuck at her shoulders because she was back to back.
My second, my son was stillborn, and my placenta didnt come away so i had to have it manually removed in theatre, also lost so much blood i almost needed a transfusion again So its very easy to say our bodies are designed for it but sometimes it doesn't work the way we plan.

If you go med free and have the labour you wish for then that's incredible but also if you don't manage it and need a little help that's great too. After all your there to bring a little life into the world and it really doesn't matter how that happens as long as both mother and baby are safe afterwards. Good luck to you, I really hope you get the labour you want.

I'm right there with you! Our bodies were clearly designed for it and handle it, so I'm going to do my best to deliver fully natural as well. Not to knock other mommies who choose to have an epidural - I've heard too many horror stories so that's something that I just wouldn't choose for myself. That being said though, I am allowing my boyfriend to make the call whether or not to give the doctor the okay to give me one if I clearly cannot handle it, just in case. I'd love to do it with no epidural or drugs at all, but I also don't want my BF to stress out or worry any more than he already will be.
