need help

I just found out I'm pregnant, not even showing up in ultrasound yet but I'm a smoker. I made a vow that I would quit if/when I found out I'm pregnant but it's proving to be harder than u thought. Does anyone know something that can help? I really don't want to cause harm to my baby by smoking

I was a smoker as well, my doctor actually told me that by quitting "cold turkey" I could cause more stress to my baby than actually smoking a couple cigarettes here or there. I mean really cutting back. I would smoke maybe 3 or 4 cigarettes a day, but really keeping them stretched out threw out the day. Then I went to two or three and then two to one cigarettes a day. But threw out the day when I would already have smoke my cigarette I would eat lollipops, it's a hand to mouth addiction. I was done smoking by the second week. You can do it :)

I'm in Colorado, my chiropractor does addiction elimination and he said you can be over the addiction with only a few treatments, it is the habit of hand to mouth that Is the hardest he said. So look for something like that where you live. :-) good luck and remember..you can do it!

I'm 22 weeks and still finding it extremely hard ti quit. I quit straight out from the start with my first no problem at all, but stupidly started smoking again when my daughter was about 3. This time round though nothing seems to work, chewing thc gum makes me sick because I can't stand the taste of any if them, I tried patches but they irritate my skin bring me out in a rash, even ecigs don't seem to work. I've managed to cut down a lot and still trying, I just don't know why its so much more difficult this time round

I was the same, I wanted to stop smoking as soon as I found out I was pregnant but they say it's better to ease off them than going cold turkey. I went to a stop smoking clinic I had patches and gum also the spray but it's not very nice. As of the 29th of December 2014 it will be 1 year since iv smoked and I feel so much better and I was a heavy smoker and asthmatic, u will / can do it just b strong.

I smoked and wasn't planning on getting pregnant. It took Me a while. Iwo raked with my doc and started cutting back slowly so my blood pressure wouldn't rise. After I got down to about 7 a day (around week 12) I went to vapor cigs. I used that for about 7 weeks and then quit completely. Its been 4 weeks since I've smoked. It is still super hard but you can do it. Vaporizers work well. My doc recommended it since I didn't want meds or patches. It really helped honestly. Message me if u want some support. I definitely know what you are going through. Main thing is do your best. Don't beat yourself up about it.

I'm happy you want to quit.  I quit before I stared to try because I wanted to take medicine for it. I know one of my friend's dr told her to taper down how many she had till she is at zero because quitting cold turkey could be too stressful.  Talk to your dr before doing anything and good luck!  Being smoke free feels so good!

You could try chewing gum when the urge hits. Or, and ask your doctor first, I've heard of some women using the e cigs to help quit during pregnancy. You can also ask about using the nicotine patches or gums.
You have a great motivator right now too. And as long as youre doing your best, don't best yourself up over a couple slip ups in the beginning (should they even occur). There are other ways to satisfy the cravings, and you'll find what's best for you.
Good luck!

You can do it girl!  I'm not a smoker so I can't really imagine how you feel but surround yourself with support!  Perhaps ask someone to help you break your habbit.  In the past when I've had severe bad habits that needed breaking for my own sake I entrusted a friend to check in on me once a day.  To make me accountable to myself and to someone else.  Try having a friend do the same for you, just shoot you a text asking about your progress.  So say you smoke a pack a day try to make that pack last half a week or a week and allow yourself only so much in a day then your friend can chime in with "did you only have _____ amount of smokes". And then just answer honestly.  I hope that could help you!

Don't worry with motivation you can't loose!!

You can do it.  Talk with your doctor about ways to stop too.  It is a lifestyle change just as much as an addiction.  Try deep breathing and a different fill-in like walking or swimming--something active.  Once you're free of it you will not regret the effort. It is difficult but worth it.  It's so much cleaner to be tobacco free.
