newborn sizes

I'm an ftm and currently 37 weeks, throughout my entire pregnancy all I have heard from people is how I don't look as far along as I am and I'm going to have a small baby but my ob says I'm measuring exactly how I should be, if not a tad bit bigger, so I feel that my son will be a decent size at least 7lbs at birth and then grow rapidly but his father thinks he's going to be small maybe even preemie size and stay pretty small until about 6mos so my question to u lovely ladies is how long was it before your babies grew out of newborn sizes?

My first boy was 7lb 9oz  he grew out of his pretty fast n 2nd boy was 6 wks early 5lb 9oz he took a few months but u wouldn't b able to tell by looking at him now he's at skool, my belly was huge with both of them put like 20 kilo on, this one I'm half the size n have only put 4kilo on n I'm 34 wks so I honestly wouldn't worry all I know is not to buy a lot of new born just a couple of each n see how u go...

My son was born at 37.5 weeks. He weighed 6lbs 14oz and was 20 inches. He wore NB clothes until he turned 3 months and he wore NB diapers forever! Lol. He's very petite like his father.
I was almost 10 lbs when I was born and my belly was huge throughout my pregnancy I thought I would at least have a 8lbs baby, but he was tiny and he staied tiny! Lol. He's almost two now and only weighs 24 lbs. He's almost identical to his dad and his dad was also a tiny kid.
I happened to have a lot of new born clothes that were given to me, I was very greatful to have them.

Thank u all...this has been the point I've been trying to get through my bfs head..So we have few items in newborn or 0-3 months and then 3-6 and are jus going to buy more after he arrives

My first was 9lb6oz 22.5in she had maybe one newborn outfit that she wore once or twice. With this one I didn't even buy any newborn size,just bought 3 month clothing. My dr even advised me not to waste money on newborn stuff since #2 could be bigger than her sister! If your dr is concerned about growth they'll probably do another ultrasound before delivery but those can be off up to 1lb in either direction.

I'm just giving a warning. Don't always go by bump size for size of baby! I had a smallish bump with my first and because I weighed 5lb 6ozs at full term when I was born doctors thought she would be average sized as my husband was 9lb when born. Because bump was so small they let me go over and turns out she was 9lb 3ozs when she arrived. I couldn't have her naturally as too big and I hemorrhaged and I remember the surgeon lifting her out and doing a double take and saying 'wow that's a big baby for you'. (I'm just shy of 5ft 3). She was so shocked she came to ward after to warn me that all future pregnancies would be section only.
So I had a small bump, was short and I didn't have GD.  I guess my husbands genes were very dominant in the weight department.lol

Because of her size she only fitted in mamas and papas newborn clothing (they are up to 10lbs) and that only lasted a couple of weeks before she was in up to one month or 0-3.

My first child was 5.11 very tiny. She wore preemie clothes for a few weeks then she went into 0-3. Babies grow fast. By six months people won't even be able to tell if your child was a preemie. Seven pounds is average is deff don't need preemie. My second child was 7.5. I thought he was going to be preemie because of my first but he wasn't and the preemie clothes I had were snugged on him. I would just go with newborn clothes. They're almost the same size as preemie just a tiny bigger.

My son was 2 weeks early and grew out of newborn clothes within the first week. At 2/3 months he wore 6 month sizes, at 5/6 months he wore 12/18 sizes, and at a year old he was between 18/24 sizes

My son was two weeks overdue and is almost twelve months only just in 0s. Newborn nappies fit him for MONTHs! :)

Both my kids were 5lbs. and some odd oz. I told my hubby that this one is going to be the same but he say he was a big baby. I was fairly small too but I hear this third one I will be bigger

I've been told most babies grow out of nb very fast. I asked for my baby shower that if anyone buys outfits to buy them 3 months plus.

My daughter was 6lbs 1oz. I was told she was measuring 7lbs 1oz 2 weeks before she was born. She was in newborn clothes for  about a month to month and a half. I don't remember exactly. Newborn was actually big on her at first.

My son was 8lb and was out of newborn size after 2 weeks. Then was always a step ahead of his actual age in clothes until about age 2. He only wore newborn sized diapers for a few days.

I had an 8 lb baby and she wore NB for about 3 weeks. She stayed small though and was in 0-3 Mos until 5 months old. Every baby is different though. My nephew was the same size at birth and wore NB clothes for less than a week and by the time he was 3 months was wearing 6 month clothes.
