Sarah, the warm water was amazing pain relief! Highly recommend using a bath or at least shower if possible... But yeah at home there's no choice of any other pain relief really. If I had no water, I don't know that my births would have been so bearable...

I was induced at 42 weeks with my daughter in December 2014. I was admitted to hospital at 6 PM on a Thursday and hooked up to a gazillion monitors and given cervidill. My mom and husband went home after a little bit because we lived 2 blocks away. I was in the delivery room on one of this really uncomfortable beds that tge bottom drops off. Since I was on a liquid only diet and I was 42 weeks along I had to pee ALL the time. Everytime I needed to get up I had to page the nurses to unhook me. Every time I moved to get comfortable the bells and whistles would go off and the nurses would have to come readjust all the monitors.  Well the cervidill did nothing and at 9 the next morning my doctor came in and broke my water and started a pitocin drip.  Contractions started and were strong but I was determined not get an epidural too fast. By 3 in the afternoon I was crying and my husband couldn't stand watching it anymore so he buzzes the nurse and told them to ask me if I wanted an iv pain med. I agreed and was given Nubane. It was awful! It made me feel like I was drunk and in pain. I was only dilated to 4 cm still. All of a sudden I looked up and my boss ( the owner of the restaurant I worked at was also an OB there) was standing in front of me. I was in so much pain I didn't care that he could see all my bits and pieces lol. Anyway he was just checking up because he heard u was there. As he left he told ne he was billing my insurance company for a high risk consultation because he needed to track what he was doing during that time lol.
At 4 I finally gave in and got the epidural. I started puking immediately.  I didn't stop until after delivery. The epidural only last a couple hours and by 7 I was at 10 cm. I started pushing at 8. It was the worst part I could feel everything and could even move my legs so my epidural was completely wore off.  I kept passing out and was so hot I tore NY gown off had the AC on high and a few fans blowing on me. After 2 hours of pushing my husband looked at me and trying to be encouraging said "honey you've only been pushing for 2 hours!" I wanted to kill him! A half hour later our daughter was born 8 lbs 3 oz 20 inches long with a 34 cm head! I had an episiotomy and had to be stiched up after.

Haha haha that's freaking awesome that you whipped her with it can't stop laughing. I had 3 this will be Our 4th so there is way to much typing but I've never been in labor for more then 4 hrs with all of them. My first son I had to be induced because I went to my dr appt but was having a gall bladder attack. Told the nurse I was going to throw up so she got me the trash can and sure enough nothing but acid. They rushed me across the street and told me I was having my baby today because my liver levels were sky high and my blood pressure was through the roof. Stupid ******* dr kept calling and asking if my son was really crowned after the nurse phoned him, not even joking he called 8 times and every time the nurse said yes he has a head full of hair. started telling the nurse to catch because I wasn't waiting on the damn dr. She BEGGED me to wait because she can't catch, my reply to that was "Yes you can, it's just like a football" (Don't know why I said that but it hurt). After 30 minutes of holding him in the dr came in "ITS ABOUT DA*N TIME" and the prick just Sat down and put his slippers on and with 2 pushes my son wa born. I had internal and external rips 15+ stitches. While he was stitching me up I kept telling him it hurt his reply was "Stop moving and suck it up". Super pissed! He weighted 7 lbs 2.3 ounces. And you better believe I got that life saving epidural with the gall bladder attack and labor dear Lord above, pure hell. But it was great. With my other 2 went to a midwife and I got to catch them. It was awesome! This go around I will be using my midwife again and trying to go without the pain meds.

@Laceyfer HAHAHA love the IV cord section of your story! She got what she deserved rude *****! Cannot believe the stories I hear about some health 'professionals'... In the corporate world she'd be hauled out for harassment and discrimination... But a vulnerable birthing woman in hospital? It's all just part of the job to demean them anyway the staff see fit apparently... Had a bad day nurses? Just take a jog up to the maternity ward to offload your anger! (Just make sure there are no spare IV cords lying within the patient's reach lol...)

2nd was my little Bonnie right on her due date. After some days of diarrhoea, I had contractions at midnight and they were close together after a few hours so I called my midwife. She came at 4am with a back up midwife. My sisters came too. I lost my mucus plug then, and there was a bit of dripping blood - I didn't realize this was normal and I started to freak out. She reassured me but by this time my labour stalled and contractions got further apart and by 10am they stopped. Midwives went home, my mum took Flynn to her house, one sister went to uni to do a class, and the rest of us had a nap. I was woken by a very intense contraction at 12pm so I called midwives and sis to tell them **** was getting real again lol. I got into the pool round 2pm, relaxing, had some increasingly intense contractions with nice long breaks in between. At 3.30 I started pushing on all fours, quietly with a little soft groaning. At 3.40pm my waters broke and Bonnie was just sliding out so fast! My midwife coached me on some quick 'HA HA HA' breathing to slow her down and allow me to stretch, which I did for 3 minutes but couldn't hold on any longer, so with one big yell and push, she came out! After such a quick birth, she didn't breathe for a whole minute (which is fine as babies get their oxygen from the umbilical cord for a while) and then she finally did a few grunts and cries. She was quite small but still weighed 8 pound 12 (midwife kept checking thinking she got it wrong). I got cleaned up, had dinner and then we went to bed. Bonnie had a slightly fast heart rate and because I was GBS positive I monitored her heart rate, temp and breathing rate every 3 to 4 hours, but she turned out to be healthy and fed like a champion!

My first I was 41 weeks and 4 days, had diarrhoea all week, then at 2am I was reading on the toilet when I realised it wasn't my bowel contracting lol, it was my uterus. I was too excited to sleep and they started to come every 10 mins so I just read a bit and timed them. By the morning they were about 6 mins apart and I told my husband. My 2 sisters came over round 10am and we all watched Kungfu Panda 1, had lunch, watched Kungfu Panda 2 and then Footloose. It was 5.30pm by that time and I was in heaps of pain, contractions were 1 to 2 mins long and kept running into each other so it felt like 1 huge long contraction. My midwife came and I decided to get into the birth pool. That was AMAZING... The contractions became bearable again and I was getting a break between them again. Hubby got in with me. At 7pm I started to push, at 7.40 there was a big one and with a yell my waters broke with a snap like an elastic breaking, and I pushed more, roaring with each push (should have warned the neighbours, they seemed a little worried). It took so much effort and my son would be pushed all the way down in a contraction then slip back up when it finished. I got so tired and lay back and my hubby and sisters took turns holding my shoulders up. I wanted to give up but my midwife told me I was doing well so I believed her and kept going! At 8.40pm I decided to push him out coz I was too tired and didn't want to wait to stretch open, so I let myself tear a bit and he came out! He was bloody huge, 10 pound 4...My fat Flynn. Waited for placenta to come for an hour but it didn't so midwife gave me a shot and pulled it out. Midwife stitched me, cleaned me up, I gave bub a feed and we all went to bed and had a massive sleep coz my fat baby didn't wake up all night :)

I love labour stories too! (Although I get so angry reading about pushy or abusive doctors and nurses! They can't just let things be) I was blessed to have the loveliest midwife in the world for both my births, didn't touch me except to check on babies heartbeat, and coached me through the hard parts! Here's my 2 if you want a read :) They were at home in a birth pool so pretty relaxed in general (however relaxed labour can be)!

Currently pg with my third but I'll tell you all about my first! Lol. My daughter was born in 2008 a month before my 19 birthday. I had a wonderful pregnancy. I was a week past my due date and I was even working up to a week before she was born. I was going swimming and biking at 8 months still. Never had cravings or morning sickness. Of I didn't have a big swollen belly I wouldn't believe I was pg. I was so smug at how easy being pg was and told myself I was going to do a drug free labor. HAHAHAHA!!! What a joke that turned out to be! So it's very early in the morning and I wake up sick as a dog. Go sit on the toilet and I'm ******** my guts out while leaning over to the sink and puking at the same time. Oh did I mention I got butt naked and was throwing water on myself as well because I felt like I was in the hums of hell??! Yea I looked like a big wet disgusting Buddah with uncontrollable vomiting and diahhrea. It was by far the worst moment of my life! (At that point anyway, stay with me here) so after I manage to finish my business, which took a whopping 10 min only, I wiped and there was show. I immediately called my labor unit and told them and of course they had me come in right away. So I hauled *** to my hospital and was there in five minutes. (Normally a twenty minute drive) I get to the labor unit and they have a bed and gown waiting for me. I slip it on and they immediately check me. 2 cm dilated. They tell me to get comfortable, I will be there a while. The next ten minutes are a blur. I remember alot of screaming and I kept fainting in and out of consciousness from the pain. They apparently put an oxygen mask on me every time I did to wake me up. Then at one particular contraction I heard one nurse say "uh oh she's groaning, get the Dr" he came to check me and during that ten minutes I went from a 2 to a 7!! My baby was falling out of me! Literally. I said her me my epidural! Dr said we don't have time with how fast youre progressing but he can give you a shot. So he did and instantly I went numb. AHHHHHH! Relief! But about twenty minutes later I called the anesthesiologist back in asking him why I was in pain again. He looked positively shocked and shouted "why are you STILL pregnant!!? That shot was  temporary, it lasts no more than 30 min for most patience, you were supposed to have your baby!!" He practically dragged the Dr back in and I Began to pass out again. I woke up and begged for an epidural and the Dr told me no because I was past 8 cm and I said I can't push if I keep passing out! So the anesthesiologist looked deep in my eyes and said hang on young lady I'm going to help you! He gave me my epidural but it took a few tries because he kept hitting my bones.. Anyway after that he went and got the Dr and the Dr told me to push. I pushed for a whole 30 seconds (that's when my water broke) and my baby was out. She weighed 8 1/2 pounds BTW. The nurse was extremely rude, looked at me and said "how old are you?" Is this your fifth kid"? ...like I was some ***** or something?!! At this point I was so fed up with the team I just grabbed my extra iv cable that was hanging out of my arm and began whipping her with it and making very rude comments to her until she left! I don't care, one less ******* to deal with. So to sum it up I was a first time mom only in labor for around 45 minutes start to finish. I truely hope your experience isn't as bad as mine.

The last thing that may be interesting to some... after my daughter was born, I apparently didn't pass all the tissue after the placenta was delivered, and my blood kept clotting. They didnt realize this until about 45 min after the delivery, when my OB had already left. So they had to call the resident up to do like an emergency scrape of my insides... and let me tell you... that crap hurt worse than delivering my baby with no meds. Before he did it, they gave me 'fentanyl' which is another one of those IV pain meds because he said "this is going to hurt." Fentanyl I guess is like the replacement to stadol (which i had with my first) but was much more tolerable to my body. But still, this guy had to basically put his whole arm up inside my uterus and scrape out all the tissue that was left befind causing the hemmohraging and large blood clots I was passing. He finally finished and I just bawled from how painful it was. I hope so much that I dont have to go through that again after the delivery of this baby in august. I asked my OB about it at my 6 week postpartum checkup- I wanted to know why that happened this time around and she said its just something that happens to done women, is not uncommon. Had that resident not done that, I could have bled to death, which is scary to think about. Thank God for modern medicine is all I can think about when I look back. Anyways, hope my stories helped you ladies! Good luck to you all

My second story is just as long (sorry) but here it goes:
My daughter was born in October 2012. I also woke up in the middle of the night eith diarrhea, then yhr contractions started. I waited until they were close enough yogether to wake up my bf and tell him it was game time lol. This was his first child so he was very excited. We drove to the hospital and the L&D nurses didnt really believe me that i was in labor. Im like look ladies, this isn't my first rodeo, so you better get me back there already lol. So I get in a room and wait a while for my doc to come. She was pretty grouchy, maybe because it was 5am or something I dont know. This labor didn't progress as fast, so I had more time to sit aoround and wait. I laid for the most part but tried sitting on the yoga ball which seemed to help me cope with the contractions better. I did however get nauseaus and threw up water in a bed pan while I was on the yoga ball =( anyways, My doc knew my birth plan was to go natural (NO drugs whatsoever since that Stadol from last time made me feel like I was on crack or something), but yet she still kept pushing pitocin yo get me to progress faster. I had to say no like 4 times, it was ridiculous. She also kept pushing me to let her break my water. I didn't want to let her, but I did for whatever reason. Then she said there was meconium in yhe water so if I didnt get her out soon they would have to do something because that is dangerous if the baby swallowed some. Well finally I got to 10cm... but I didnt get the urge to puch lije last time. So i kinda freaked out and told her I wasn't ready. She basically had the nurses pry my legs open and tell me it was time to push whether I liked it or not! (I'm obviously not using her again for this baby lol). I started pushing and man it hurt like hell. I felt it tearing pretty bad, and she must not have given me much local anesthetic because it was sooo much more painful than with my son. So i went into freakout mode and just pushed and pushed eithout listening to what she wss telling me. I broke a vlood vessel in my eye because of that lol. My daughter was finally out after a whopping 10 minutes of pushing ;)

I can tell you about my last two if you care to read:
My son was born in March 2006. I was 18, my mom drove me to the hospital in the a.m. (I just knew i was in labor... i woke up with bad diarrhea then the contractions started). Well, after she stopped at the atm (lol) we got to the hospital and they wheeled me up to L&D, no questions asked because it was obvious i was ready to deliver this baby =) My birth plan was to get the epidural. When i got to the hospital i wad 4cm (i believe) so they called the anesthesiologist. He took forever to get there. While i was waiting, i told the nurse i had to go pee. She told me to 'hold on' and then my water broke on the bed. I said "guess i didn't have to pee after all" lol. Well by the time the dang anesthesiologist got there, i wad 8cm so i could not get an epidural. Cried my eyes out because i was terrified. So to calm me down they gave me Stadol which is a 'pain med' they give you through your IV. That crap was terrible. All it did was make me tired in bergen contractions, didn't do anything for the pain and i felt all loopy. (Luckily i think the stadol is no longer used in labor & delivery practices) so anyways, after a little while i start shaking uncontrollable and yelled "I GOTTAAAA PUUUUSH!"lol my doc want quite ready with his forces l gloves and stuff so they were like 'don't push yet, breathe like you're breating through a straw". That was hard because once you get that feeling, you just want to go all out and get that baby out. So finally they said i could push, and i didnt know how to so i just started to bear down and yelled while i did. The nurse snapped at me and said "dont yell! Hold your breath when you push and count to 10 then relax." I  pushed for all of 8 minutes after that and my beautiful baby boy was born. Hes now 9 but it seems like just yesterday ='(
