picking up lighter stuff?

I'm 7 weeks in and everyone's telling me I should stop carrying my backpack to work (i walk to work) which only has some papers and notebooks in it and that i cant pick up a 2 yr old that asked me to hold it. Could this really hurt the baby?

I'm 7 months and have moving things around the house pick up my two year old who's 27 pounds and I'm fine. If I feel I doing to much I'll end up sitting down.but so far my baby's fine.

I'm 28 weeks and they've just told me to not lift anything heavy over your shoulders. Since then I've been put on restrictions to not lift anything over 20 lbs. I do not think lofting 5-10lb backpack is a big deal, just take it easy. Beat way to know for sure though is to just call your ob and ask because he should know your limits. (:

I picked up my 4 year old neice the other day. She is the size of a 3 year old though. Also I've carried a 9 month old around all weekend. Your just not supposed to pick up very heavy things.

You won't cause any harm to you or baby by lifting things. Once you are late in the second trimester and third trimester lifting heavy things becomes an issue because your back is curved differently and can cause you significant discomfort or injury. It won't cause you to miscarry though.
