pregnancy and herpes

I have a feeling this doesn't get talked about too much but any experience could be helpful. I contracted type 1 of the herpes symplesxvirus from my boyfriend when I was 18 (type 1 is typically the oral version but I contracted it genitally) I have been incredibly lucky in that I only ever had an initial outbreak and have had no problems for the last 11 years. Of course, now that I'm pregnant I'm having an outbreak that is proving to be quit painful. I already know that if I have an active outbreak at the time of labour I'll likely end up getting a c section so that the baby isn't exposed but what I'm wondering is if I'm going to have multiple outbreaks to look forward to over the next few months or if hopefully this will be it.

Did anyone notice an increase in outbreak occurrence during pregnancy?

I've had one outbreak while i've been pregnant (I'm 35 weeks) and that was due to me stressing out and forgetting to take my medication. I choose to take valtrex,it's a suppresent and my ob said it's fine to take while pregnant. I recommend talking to your ob about taking it. Hope this helps.

You tend to have more outbreaks in pregnancy because of your hormones. There is a pill that is a low dosage your doctor can put you on. Take one a day. It will help prevent outbreaks. Also be careful about sex, make sure you & your partner tell each other when you have an accruing outbreak. Outbreaks can't hurt the baby but it can be extremely uncomfortable for you especially during pregnancy.

You dont need a csection for type 1 herpes.  Just dont kiss your baby in the mouth.
