shooting pain

I've been laying in bed for a couple hours now and have started experiencing VERY bad shooting pain in my vaginal area ...feels almost like a knife or being tazed ! I have to like flex my legs when it happens ,it's pretty painful. Does anyone know what this may be ? It's not going away

actually, i have the same sharp pains in the same place, and my doctor said that it's because the baby is burrowing his head deeper into the pelvic canal, and ends up pushing on nerves - then those nerves respond with the sharp "lightning rod" feeling. the pressure from the baby pressing is also expanding the pelvis, so that also is more reason for the pain. contractions feel more like a tight tight tightening around the entire uterus - sort of like (bad analogy) you put a plastic bag over your head and breathed in all of the air to where it was tight against your head - that's what it's doing to the baby's body. when they get closer to the delivery, they'll be accompanied by menstrual type cramps.
