smoking cigarettes???

Hey girls! So i just found out I'm pregnant about a week ago with my second child and I do smoke cigarettes, but now I know I'm pregnant and about 4-6 weeks I'm trying to quit but the urge to smoke to still there even though I get disgusted when when I light one up. Can any one give me some tips to stop and also can it harm the baby at this point? Please help (:

I didn't know I was pregnant til I was more than a month pregnant! And I was a 7 year pack a day smoker. I had always planned to quit immediately if I found out I was pregnant but my friends, family and fiance all convinced me it was better to wean. This lead to me trying to cut back severely and wavering every other day because EVERYONE around me smoked normally, including his pregnant sister who had no intention of quitting. For almost 4 months I fluctuated from 7 or 8 on a very bad day, to half a cigarette on a good day. Finally, at 24 weeks, I got so pissed off at myself and everyone else that i locked myself in my room for 3 days and quit cold turkey. Honestly, it was less stressful than the weaning. It was hard at first and I felt so guilty for waiting so long to quit when it was what I already planned to do. I only regret not doing it sooner because of the fears my family gave me and the non-support. I can happily say that I am now almost 115 days smoke free and will be 120 days smoke free by the time my son is born this Friday (: we are completely healthy and the best advice I have is stay away from smokers as much as possible, keep a tally of every day you go without a cigarette (or get a handy app that keeps track for you) and every time you want one, look up the benefits of quitting smoking, and the detrinent smoking cigarettes while pregnant is! (: good luck ma'am!

I switched to smoking lights for awhile and just tried to cut back as much as i could then after a week or two i started using a tar bar. U put them on the end of ur cig and it absorbs alot of the tar tht comes out of ur cig u can buy them at gas stations. After awhile of doing tht i was finally able to just altogether just stop. I was able to stop at 15 weeks.

I smoked for a while and when I found out I was pregnant I threw my pack out the window of my car and never touched them again. Luckily I was only 4 weeks so it didn't hurt my baby

Take up gum chewing every time you feel like having a puff chew gum. I know a few ladies who smoked through their pregnancues and the kids have bad asthma now. Just think of other ways to destress when u need a puff.

I was a heavy heavy smoker before I found out I was pregnant. I haven't touched a single one since that first positive pregnancy test. The answer for me was a very very strong will to do what's best for my child and the help of nicotine patches. I put myself on a very fast track though and started with Step 2 for only one week, then went to Step 3 for 5-7 days. I did have some strong withdrawal days, but nowhere near what they would have been without the help of the patches. You CAN quit! Trust me!

I'm ashamed to say that for the first few months I smoked about a cigg a day while prego. I'm high risk and got ultrasounds done every 2 wks. A couple months ago they told me the baby was small and was only 22% in growth. I immediately thought it was because of ciggerettes. I stopped right away. At my last appt my baby had grown more. Now she's at 31%. I do believe smoking could have caused her not to grow very well and honestly would never think about smoking not even one ciggerette with her inside me and hopefully never smoke again. I have been a pack a day smoker for about 13 yrs now, Its time to quit! I hope u can find the strength also! Good luck!!

I was the same! I found out I was pregnant at 5 weeks and knew I didn't want to smoke as it's so dangerous and harmful to my precious baby, everytime I craved a cigarette I looked up the danger of dangers of smoking whilst pregnant on the internet, the things that really made me not light up were that every cigarette smoked made my babys heart beat really fast, it said online that I might aswell just squeeze my babys umbilical cord for a while, resulting in my baby not having enough oxygen and struggling :( I quit cold turkey and haven't looked back, I'm now 37 weeks and it's honestly the best thing I ever did. You can do it girl, I know you can :D All the best, wishing you a healthy pregnancy and baby xx

Buy your LAST pack.  Period. Separate them out over a week and be done when its done.  It will suck for a day or two, but honestly think about your baby not getting oxygen when you smoke, or being too little or preterm and in the hospital. That's how I quit. Haven't smoke in 6 months and I am 7 months pregnant.  You can do it, I hope you do!

Yes smoking  is not good for the baby. So everytime  you get the urge just think of the health of your little one and that will give you strength to move forward. Good luck
