It isn't impossible and well done to all you that have managed to quit cold turkey but personally I couldn't do it, Reading posts like this inspire me and haven't had my usual after dinner cigarette and I am suprised that I have not missed it! Here's hoping I CAN do it because I am choosing not to smoke I have just got to not think about it orelse panic sets in! Of course it doesn't help that my partner smokes though but to all you guys that haven't managed to stop completely you can do it! It is mind over matter! Stopping smoking is the best thing anyone can do so keep trying and if you fail try again and again. I feel great knowing I have not smoked for 24 hours even if it is the one :-) good luck!!

Coming from a former smoker,  I know it is difficult but every cigarette is a choice you make. Make the right choice! They are poison to your body,  the body of those around you, and most of all to the fragile life in your belly. I quit over a year ago as soon as I started trying to conceive.

Did I really just read in one of the comments that a doctor said it was OK to smoke just stop before the baby comes? I'm sorry but there is no way a doctor would tell a pregnant woman that it is OK to smoke.I sincereally hope another woman doesn't read that bull and think its true. To the girl that posted the original question...try to find a way to stop completely that works for you. My fiance finally quit after many years. Its very hard but impossible! Be strong you can do it!

My boyfriend and I quit the day we found out and have not had one sense! -5months. I find it selfish to continue when you have something so precious relying on you and you cant put something like a cigarette down. That baby has more needs then you and relies on you to help it get them all met. Havent you ever seen the smoking commercial of the woman who didnt quit smoking and had to talk to her baby in the oxygen tank? So sad, makes me cry everytime. You are better then that! It is not worth the life you are growing/giving.

To pick up a cigarette and think about my baby at the same time, seems impossible to me.

I used to smoke as we'll the day I found out I was pregnant I never smoked again!!! It's not as hard to quit as you think it is. It's all in your mind set. Idk for me once I found out I had a baby in my tummy I couldn't smoke again. But everyone's different....

I was 2 weeks pregnant when I found out and thats when I stopped smoking I'm now almost 2months and it was the best decision I've made. Not only am I healthier but I'm not harming my baby before I gave up I was smoking more than 20 a day and on nights out 40 so I was an addictive smoker and giving up was so easy because my babys health is more important").

Pregnancy is not ten months! Not every month has 4 weeks exactly! Go do your research. About the smoking if you do not or have bot smoked this does not concern you, does it? Everyone knows how bad it is for you and your unborn child but unfortunately quitting is far from easy for many.

I smoked before pregnancy and it has been a roller coaster let me tell you!  I used to smoke 15 a day! So when I found I was pregnant I cut down dramatically to about 4-5 a day then I tried nicotine replacement therapy (the inhaler and spray) have I managed to quit completely?  No! It is so hard and hormpnes and pregnancy rages does not make it any easier. So now I smoke max 2 a day and I roll my own I do not buy packet as these contain 100's more chemicals, I roll my own as thinly as I can and use a filter. I feel guilty everytime I finish one its horrible and I feel disgusted with myself but then I think well this is me quitting I no longer crave more than 1-2 a day and I will quit those 2 when I feel I can! Its funny coz I hate the smell and I hate seeing people smoking in the streets holding their childs hand ir pregnant woman smoking! Its hideous but unfortunately addiction is very real and we must handle it the best we can and that means quitting when and how you can, do your very best to cut down day by day, week by week and you will get there.

If you girls look at the calendar there is more than 4 weeks in a months (only by a couple days) but once its all added up its only 9 months. I used to think it was 10 months to but if you think about your due date from your conception date its NINE months. I was due in September and I conceived in January that makes 9 months. Just clarifying, I understand the confusion

Yup, gave up the day I found out after smoking for 20 years. Anyone who says they can't is just being selfish. It's not about u anymore, it's about ur baby.

I smoked 1-2 packs a day before I found out I was pregnant with my 1st and I was about 6/7 weeks pregnant.  It was so tempting but was able to quit. I encourage everyone who's currently smoking to just give it up for the baby and after u see ur lil angel in ur arms healthy,  u will be a proud mommy :)

Well maybe you should not "yell" at someone who says 10 month.. as a month have 4 weeks so if i am counting correctly 40 weeks is 10 month and babies are supposed to come on the 40th week but i am really sorry if im wrong. I was smoking as well but as soon as we decided to keep her (5weeks) i quit. It is really a bad habit and unhealthy and disgusting smoking whilst pregnancy. If someone is really care for her baby then it is not a quesition to quit or not!!! I was also smoking a lot but it was such an easy decision and act to stop it for my babygirl!!

Technically, pregnancy is 10 months. 4 weeks per month x 10 months = 40 weeks. My mom smoked 4 cigs per day while pregnant with me until about 5 months. I had to stay in an oxygen tent for 3 weeks after birth and still have to use an inhaler for my asthma.

I'd say if you want to give your child the best chance at being as healthy as possible, it would be advisable to stop smoking as soon as you find out you're pregnant.

10 months?? Umm pregnancy is 9 months, you shouldn't be giving advice if you don't know how long pregnancy is.

Smoking is harmful towards the baby, I had an issue in the beginning but once I seen that it was affecting his growth I stopped automatically. It is one of the hardest habits to quit and if you can't then you can't. Try and cut back though and don't let anyone make you feel terrible for doing it.

You should just stop,  you would feel horrible if your baby needed to stay in one of this machine thing to finish its lung development because you couldn't put down a habit for 10 months...
