I smoked maybe a half pack a day with my first son. He was born perfectly healthy, 8 lbs 5ozs. He is 20 months now and has been to the doctor once for being sick. I know smoking is bad for you and the baby, but my son has had no effect from me doing it.

Honestly, the stress of trying to quit could be worse for your baby than you smoking. Do the best you can, and just try to remember, nobody is perfect.

Try not to stop cold turkey. Wean yourself off slowly by cutting back until you get to 1 a day then stop. I have never smoked but a friend of mine did and her doctor told her to gradually quit because the baby is already addicted and if you quit cold turkey the baby can go through withdrawls just like you, but it can be harder on the baby. But just slowly quit. She did it by only smoking on in the morning, one on each break at work (we had 2 breaks a day) one on lunch and one before bed. After a bit she cut down to one in the morning, one on lunch, and one before bed. Then she was able to cut down all the way andquit.

When I was pregnant with my son I use to smoke half a pack and cut down to no more than 6 on a stressful day. I even let my doctor know I smoked. All she told me was that its best to quit an if you can't just smoke as less as possible cause its only harmful if the smoke is in the womb. As far as the nicotine in your system your baby is already getting it an it would give the baby withdrawls to quit cold turkey too. She didnt encourage smoking but she eased my concerns a lot. My baby boy was born 6 pounds 11 ounces and was born at 38.5 weeks fully healthy and fully developed.

Try to be positive and strong for your baby, my sister smoked through out her whole pregnancy. I dont know how much she smoked and honestly I was so upset with her. But you have to do what you think you should for yourself and your baby. At least try to quit. But my nephew was born perfectly healthy. Her drs even told her smoking was good for baby. I dont see how, but best of luck
