tdap shop question.

I'm in my third trimester and my Dr. Recommended I get it,
I'm a FTM and of course I get worried about things like this, I want to get it
I was wondering how safe is for the baby?
I've seen good comments about it plus Dr told me is safe for baby but I wanna hear from other moms as well.

The whole 'doctors wouldn't recommend something that would hurt your baby' is a bit of a fallacy. They certainly won't recommend something that WOULD definitely hurt your baby, but this is not 100% risk free, and so they are recommending something that MIGHT hurt your baby. Just like any vaccine. Except most of them are properly safety-tested, whereas this one doesn't even have that assurance (the main worry is they're just not sure whether it messes with the baby's immune responses or not).

Anyway, it's highly unlikely anything will happen from the Tdap shot, but that's why it should always be up to the parents to decide. The doctor will recommend something that is statistically likely to be fine for you, your baby, and better for the country, but they don't have to live with the consequences that the tiny number of unfortunate reactees have to live with. But yeah, the chances of anything REALLY bad happening (death, severe damage etc) are REALLY REALLY rare. So while I'm happy enough to refuse it at this stage, I wouldn't be too worried if I got it either.

Besides his mom hasn't been too excited about my baby., she's nice and all but hasn't bought Nothing for my baby or hasn't been too envolved ...so I am feeling a certain type of way towards his fam

I got when I was pregnant with my son and he is perfectly fine. He is 22 months old. But if you don't feel comfortable getting it then just be careful with exposing your newborn with a lot of different people. When I got the shot last time, we were living with my parents and everyone in the house got it, too. The doctor recommended everyone who was going to be around him to get it and so they did, and I didn't take him out unless it was to go see his pediatricia. This time around the doctor hasn't said anything about it, I asked and she just said that since all of us already got it when I was pregnant with my son there is no need to get it again, just make sure that people who are going to be around the baby who haven't gotten it to get it. Which in this case will be my mother in law. Hope it helps. Good luck and God bless!

I got it. Im pretty sure your doctor wouldn't suggest anything that would potentially harm your unborn child.

It's not well tested in foetuses. I don't feel comfortable getting it just in case, just gonna keep my baby at home for first 6 weeks or so. It's a category C drug (rated by FDA) which means it hasn't been tested properly on human foetuses and it has been tested on animal foetuses with some bad effects. Usually category C drugs are banned for pregnancy, however a miniscule amount of category C drugs are still recommended during pregnancy as the potential benefits are thought to outweigh the estimated potential disadvantages. It does offer the best protection against whooping cough for a newborn out of any other option.
