whooping cough

My doctor wants me to get the whooping cough vaccination next week. I'm 26 weeks pregnant. Is that something you have to get while pregnant? My doctor also said that once the baby born people who are not vaccinated can't visit baby in the hospital. I can't make people get vaccinated I'm not sure if I even want to take it

My friends nephew got whooping cough and his lung collapsed before he was one... the shot is for the baby not really for you...

I have had mine with each pregnancy and until baby is able to get their vaccine the number of people allowed to visit is limited along with strict hand washing and no vaccine no kisses rule. I will do whatever I can to protect my baby even if an aunt or something gets all bent out of shape about it.

My doctors had me get it at 34 weeks. But my opinion is if it is something that will protect my baby before I can get him his own vaccine then I will at least try. My husband is actually allergic to the tdap vaccine so I am worried about vaccinations he will get when he is here, but my doctors told me that it is the immunities that pass through the placental barrier not the vaccine itself.

Whooping cough us serious...do your research before you decline to get it... if your doctor believes its best and your second guessing them... to me that's not a good sign...

I got mine with both pregnancies because it protects your baby before it is old enough to get its first set of shots. Daddy got his 3 years ago when our first was born so he doesn't need it again. Anyone who comes in contact with baby should have had it within the last 10 years. Better safe than sorry.

I got mine with both babies just to be safe. Our hospital is very strict with it and visitors. They do screen people when they come to visit to protect babies.

I didn't bother with my first baby and I'm 36wks. I'm not gonna get the vaccine. You wouldn't know who does or doesn't have it.. I hate it when practitioners give you false information! Do what you think is best.

It's your choice, but babies could die from whooping cough. If you get it, it protects your baby for the first 8wks.  My son was born almost 3 years ago in the middle of the epidemic Washington state had.. 3500 cases in June!!  I told people if they wanted to visit him,  they had to have it. Or wait the 2 month until he did. Simple as that.  Lol but I was paranoid. (&trying to get a break from my MIL) lol!! She ended up getting it after about a week.
& the tdap is also tetanus which is always good to be up to date on.
Just my opinion. :)

It's the tdap shot. It's a great shot. Gives the baby a bit of a fighting chance in the womb. And yes she can't tell u no one can't see the baby its just best that if they aren't vaccinated to tell them not to kiss the baby in the mouth and or face. An to always wash their hands

Of course you don't have to get it. But I got mine at about 27 weeks and baby is perfectly fine. It is more likely to do good than any harm getting the vaccine. And it is more likely that something will happen to baby if you don't get it than if you do. Because a baby cannot get that vaccine untill a couple months old and without it could die IF someone has it and passes it along to baby (which may not be a concern if no one that will see baby has it). But in my opinion, I would get it. Just to be safe.
