Advice needed...am I pg?!

Hi everyone

Ive just spent hours reading the original thread which spawned this forum, and there are a few people who seem really knowledgable so I thought I would share my story to see if anyone has any advice or ideas...

(sorry if this is long...but theres a bit of background to it..)
I never had a particularly regular cycle before I was on the pill. I came off the pill after approx 4 1/2 years in Feb 2007. Started ttc but had no pg and no af at all until Feb 2008. Visited the doctor many times, got referred for further investigation last summer. Had blood tests, a hysterosalpingogram and a trans-vaginal ultrasound and all came back as normal. I was diagnosed therefore with PCOS in December. I also learned my cervix is in a posterior position. Over the summer I split from my partner, but my consultant said he would keep me on his books for a year so that I could start taking medication to stimulate my ovaries should I decide to start ttc again. At Christmas I moved back to my home town but haven't told the consultant as the treatment is not free where I am now living.

Meanwhile af came in June, Aug, beginning of Oct, beginning of Dec, end of Jan, so approximately every other month - I therefore assumed one ovary was more affected by the PCOS than the other. Got a new partner in Nov, always used precautions until March where we had several episodes of unprotected sex around the middle of the month. I had totally put ttc out of my mind. So I was expecting af end of Mar/beginning of Apr but its still not here as of today (11 Apr).

On 28 Mar I had a migraine. On 30 Mar I started having abdominal pains but not cramps as such, along with some back pain and assumed af was coming. Felt very nauseous in the a.m on 1, 2, 3 and 4 Apr, along with severe bloating, frequent urination, extreme tiredness and further headaches. Weirdly cm - which I usually have a lot of - seemed to stop completely except for each day there was a globule of pure white creamy cm...very unusual for me. 1-3 Apr I had heightened sense of smell and taste, and was alternately ravenously hungry and feeling really sick.

I suspected pg, and did a test on 3 Apr which was bfn, then I used an early test the following day, also bfn. Both tests done first thing in the morning. Since the morning of the 4th Ive not felt sick as such, although I do get the urge to heave every so often. I no longer smell everything like I was. The bloating has gone down over the last few days, along with the frequent urination and headaches. Still not as much cm as usual though, and just this afternoon I have become bloated again with more abdominal "pulling" sensations and back pain.

What the hell is going on?! Last week I was sooo sure it was going to be bfp, I completely felt pregnant. When I first started getting the symptoms I didnt even realise they WERE symptoms of pg until I looked it up online a couple of days later, so I can't believe it was just psychosomatic. I have another test which Im going to do tomorrow but Im totally expecting bfn. I wouldve thought if I was pg the early test wouldve shown +ve as the 4th would definitely have been after af shouldve arrived. And because my cycle hasnt run properly for many months I havent been able to work out the dates of when I wouldve been ov, or when implantation couldve occurred :(

Im so confused, I feel tricked by my body and like all my intuition counts for nothing. If Im not pg, where on earth is af? Im probably going to go to the docs next week if I have no resolution either way, but it will entail signing up as a temporary patient if I am to keep my previous consultant, so they wont have access to any of my history. Could it be that my hcg levels are just too low to be picked up on a test? Would a blood test be more accurate at this point? Am I simply going insane??

Thanks in advance for any input!!

Yikes sorry for all you are going through. Me personally I have always had regular periods but very very painful periods and ovarian issues. When I ovulate my stomach would bloat up like I was pg and I would have all the signs of being pg but nothing. I was not diagnosed with pcos but none the less I ended up with ovarian surgery in jan of 06. Luckily there has been no affect on ttc from that. I had issues ttc for 4 yrs and could not get a reason why. I do know my bff was on the pill and it took her a good 3 yrs to become pg. Has your dr mentioned anything to you as far as the pill having a averse affect on your body and cycle? In some way has it damaged your cycle by taking it for so long. Have you talked to your dr about taking anything to bring on ovulation? Have you had your follies checked to make sure everything is okay. How long have you been actively ttc or are you just trying without really trying? I wish I could be of more help. The only advice I can give is right now if you think you are pg I would have your blood drawn and then talk with your dr about a plan what you should do from here. Best wishes to you and good luck.....Let me know what happens..

Thanks so much for your reply :)

No I wasnt *actively* ttc right now, but I would be so happy if it happened. If I want the medication I could go back to my consultant and get put on clomifene citrate or letrozole but I dont know how it would work with me not living there any more...as in I guess they would want to check me every so often and I live too far away to do that (I dont really know how it works tbh). If I got transferred to a consultant where I am currently living I would have to pay for the medication and I can't afford it right now....soooo frustrating.

I realise it might be my cycle going totally haywire, but it just seems strange after so many months of it coming regularly, coupled with all the weird symptoms. Im definitely going to speak to a doc next week either way and get some more advice.

Its SO hard to know wether or not you could be PG , especially having PCOS and irregular AF's.....It very well could be that your homonone levels are just still to low , there are alot of women out there who dont get a BFP until 6 weeks along or sometimes farther , I would recommend getting a blood test in a week or so to know for sure if still no AF....However judging from you history of AF's I dont think "not" getting it is a reliable reason to believe your pg or otherwise , My little sister has PCOS and theres no rythmn or rhyme as to when her AF comes .....she can have it 3 months in a row & not get it for 6 months....Its so hard & it makes even harder when TTC......Im thinking you arent TTC right now though? If you are , trying something like Clomid or Fertilaid would be helpful ......Is there a fertility specalist you can talk to? I dont know much about what works when you have PCOS , but I know a friend of mine has it and took Clomid which is why I suggested it.....The only other suggestion would just be to not use protection & " do the deed" as often as you want and hope that by chance you will get pg.....When TTC you should have sex around your fertile time , but not knowing when you "O" would make it hard , so best advice....do it every 1-2 days , 2-3 days at most and always lay with your legs elevated on a pillow for about 10-15 minutes afterwards to allow his little swimmers some graviational pull LOL.......I hope you get the answers you want this month , but just remember you have MANY more months to come....and enjoy "doing the deed" while you can , cause after baby , its not nearly as much fun! LOL :P
