Hi everyone
Ive just spent hours reading the original thread which spawned this forum, and there are a few people who seem really knowledgable so I thought I would share my story to see if anyone has any advice or ideas...
(sorry if this is long...but theres a bit of background to it..)
I never had a particularly regular cycle before I was on the pill. I came off the pill after approx 4 1/2 years in Feb 2007. Started ttc but had no pg and no af at all until Feb 2008. Visited the doctor many times, got referred for further investigation last summer. Had blood tests, a hysterosalpingogram and a trans-vaginal ultrasound and all came back as normal. I was diagnosed therefore with PCOS in December. I also learned my cervix is in a posterior position. Over the summer I split from my partner, but my consultant said he would keep me on his books for a year so that I could start taking medication to stimulate my ovaries should I decide to start ttc again. At Christmas I moved back to my home town but haven't told the consultant as the treatment is not free where I am now living.
Meanwhile af came in June, Aug, beginning of Oct, beginning of Dec, end of Jan, so approximately every other month - I therefore assumed one ovary was more affected by the PCOS than the other. Got a new partner in Nov, always used precautions until March where we had several episodes of unprotected sex around the middle of the month. I had totally put ttc out of my mind. So I was expecting af end of Mar/beginning of Apr but its still not here as of today (11 Apr).
On 28 Mar I had a migraine. On 30 Mar I started having abdominal pains but not cramps as such, along with some back pain and assumed af was coming. Felt very nauseous in the a.m on 1, 2, 3 and 4 Apr, along with severe bloating, frequent urination, extreme tiredness and further headaches. Weirdly cm - which I usually have a lot of - seemed to stop completely except for each day there was a globule of pure white creamy cm...very unusual for me. 1-3 Apr I had heightened sense of smell and taste, and was alternately ravenously hungry and feeling really sick.
I suspected pg, and did a test on 3 Apr which was bfn, then I used an early test the following day, also bfn. Both tests done first thing in the morning. Since the morning of the 4th Ive not felt sick as such, although I do get the urge to heave every so often. I no longer smell everything like I was. The bloating has gone down over the last few days, along with the frequent urination and headaches. Still not as much cm as usual though, and just this afternoon I have become bloated again with more abdominal "pulling" sensations and back pain.
What the hell is going on?! Last week I was sooo sure it was going to be bfp, I completely felt pregnant. When I first started getting the symptoms I didnt even realise they WERE symptoms of pg until I looked it up online a couple of days later, so I can't believe it was just psychosomatic. I have another test which Im going to do tomorrow but Im totally expecting bfn. I wouldve thought if I was pg the early test wouldve shown +ve as the 4th would definitely have been after af shouldve arrived. And because my cycle hasnt run properly for many months I havent been able to work out the dates of when I wouldve been ov, or when implantation couldve occurred :(
Im so confused, I feel tricked by my body and like all my intuition counts for nothing. If Im not pg, where on earth is af? Im probably going to go to the docs next week if I have no resolution either way, but it will entail signing up as a temporary patient if I am to keep my previous consultant, so they wont have access to any of my history. Could it be that my hcg levels are just too low to be picked up on a test? Would a blood test be more accurate at this point? Am I simply going insane??
Thanks in advance for any input!!
