Did anyone do amnio with twins???

Hi everyone, I am usually over on the fertility board or preg for 35 and over, but have been jumping over to read everyone's post.  I am currently at (almost) 14 weeks with fraternal twins.  Because of my age, (just turned 40) my screening test came back a little high and I was sent to a maternal fetal medicine doc.  The topic of amnio came up and I am REALLY trying NOT to have one.  This is just because of the risks, we've worked so hard to get these little ones and it would just kill me if I did something that hurt them.  Besides, it would not make a difference.  These babies are coming regardless, and with the grace of god..... but..... if they do see something that is really concerning I might consider it, so I wanted to get those who have had or know someone who has had amnio with twins what was the experience and result.  Thanks!!!

I had a CVS done instead of Amnio since it could be done a few weeks earlier.  I had it done because my ex-doctor thought that they had a high NT-scan measurement and thought they might have chromosone issues.  Turns out she was wrong and because she handled the situaiton horribly, she is now my ex-doctor.

Hello there, I had twins 10 yrs ago and I had the amnio b/c of the same reasons why you have too b/c the tests came out high.  What the doctor does is they put a dye in one of the sacs and they numb the area where they have to put the needle in and you feel a lot of pressure as the needle goes in they have an u/s on at all times to see where they r putting the needle in and all.  Then they do the next sac and they have to make sure that they have the right baby so they have to make sure they don't see the dye then they numb you again and put the needle in.  It was a bit uncomfortable but it was done pretty quick.  You have to make sure that you stay off your feet for a few days.  Don't do a thing.  Those blood tests always come out high when you are having two or more babies.  There really not designed for multiples yet.  Which I am very surprised about since there r so many more women having multiples these days you would think by now they would have a special test for it.  I am pregnant now with twins again but we knew that the tests would come out high so we didn't have the tests done yet.  I see a maternal, fetal medicine doc too in a few wks so that they could do another u/s to check the back of the babies heads to see if everything is growing normally.  My hubby doesn't want me to have another amnio b/c it was too stressful for me.  I hope that this info help you out.  The results were good they babies were both fine and I had a boy & a girl.  At least with the amnio you know for sure what the sex is without the docs guessing and trying to see from the u/s.  Good luck and let me know how it goes.  Congrats too!!
