18 HCG levels in BETA BLOOD TEST.

Hey everyone,
Let me say to all of you I appreciated all of your past comments. You have been a great help to my other questions. Now I come to you for another one.

I went and got labs on Monday 8/06/2012. My hcg levels came back and I received only 18.  I am new with the beta blood tests so I really do not understand much of their scaling.
The doctor said I am 3 weeks pregnant but very early. He also said there could be a chance of ectopic pregnancy or pregnancy abortion due to the levels are so low. Of course due to I have already miscarried in January of this year you can understand my fears.

I do not know if it matters or not, but from what i understand they go by 28 days. My period is never on time and is rather unpredictable.

I have been watching for signs of miscarriage, honestly, expecting at any moment to loose my little miracle. I have had no symptoms of miscarriage. I have had sore breast (To the other pregnant women, I do sympathize they really can hurt in the morning!) I do smell everything, and i mean everything!!! :/ and alas i do have a pressure in my belly but the doctor says that can be normal growing pains. I am not certain.

I feel I need to hear from the other mothers out there. Ladies, what do you think on the subject?

Please respond and help (Hopefully) a future mother out.

thankyou,
ashley jane

Thank you ladies. I'm just so upset with myself. Its hard not to blame yourself. I have always wanted a large family and it's starting to not look possible. Honestly I am hurt but its my husband I am worried about. It breaks my heart to see him go through this twice in a row. Yet he keeps being a great cheer leader for me. I'm lucky I have him.

But I am seriously terrified something is wrong. What are the possibilities of it being my uterus? I know it is not my blood. I am AB + and my husband is O+ so that's fine. I always seem to miscarry between 4 to 5 weeks. Do you think it is possibly just bad luck.

I didn't mention this before, but i did almost loose my life in July 10th, It was a very hard battle fighting to keep it.  It wasn't intentional but 2 weeks later i conceived. (Funny how the times you aren't thinking to hard it just happens)  Do you think perhaps just my body is to exhausted from the earlier weeks. I know you all aren't doctors.. but it is a comfort to at least get some opinions.

But my GYN does plan on doing some test on Sept 5, due to she feels I am to young to be having two miscarriages. Even though it is just possibly bad timing on my half. :( Even so. I still like to hear from all you mothers and mothers to be out there. Thanks again ladies.. You all have been such a great comfort to me!

God bless,
Ashley Jane

I'm sorry to hear this. I have miscarried and it is so painful. Give yourself time to heal. After two losses docs/midwives will be more vigilant in helping your determine the cause. If you get pregnant again...they will monitor closely and probably recommend different kinds of supplemental care for you. Make sure to have your progesterone levels checked out. Again...I am so sorry. I lost one in January and it is still very fresh. Peace to you and your partner.

hey ladies just wanted to give you all an up date.
Last night at 7:00 pm i miscarried for the second time. :( I am very shocked due to honestly there was no warning. I had no symptoms and was doing completely fine. I also heard that miscarrying twice in a row is very low.

Any ways, I went for my 100th time to the bathroom and there was brown blood. I instantly went to the emergency room and of course they did my blood work. There was progress but it seemed possibly not enough.

Sadly though it was to early to say whether it was a miscarriage or just spotting. We were hopeful that it was maybe just spotting but as the night went on the pain suddenly grew. I recognized the sharp pains instantly and knew i was going through a miscarriage.

Ladies second time in a row that i have miscarried. I am only 23 years old so i know age is not the problem. I go see my Obgyn tomorrow for blood work. Honestly, just want to hide in my room and not be reminded of the three words every mom doesn't want to hear. "No hcg levels"

Just need some comfort. Thanks ladies

Well ladies finally able to go in for lab work today.. wish me luck.. I'm very nervous. Nothing of severe cramps or bleeding have occurred and I'm even starting to show some signs that i might be getting morning sickness (Let's pray not to bad) Its very hard to eat due to feeling slightly icky. I do nibble on crackers and soup though.. I would like to thank all of you again for posting, you ladies truly have eased my mind. I feel even tho I am nervous, (We never know for sure) that the baby is alright and I just have lower hcg levels. Like you ladies say... As long as its increasing.... Which hopefully it has.

"Getalife863" thanks so much your comment was an extreme comfort! :D I saw this and then just realized its not the best idea to compare everyone's hcg levels. Every pregnancy is different.

Wish me luck ladies and please have a prayer for me and the baby.

thank you,
ashley jane

I did IVF and for my first blood test my numbers were only 19 and I was about 4 weeks pregnant. They tested again two days later and they had more than doubled. Now I'm 8w4d and everything looks great. Make sure they recheck your labs in a couple days. That is the only way to know for sure. Good luck!

I found out at 3 1/2 weeks pregnant, mine was only 60, it's not really the number, it's making sure it doubles every 48-72 hours. The number has to start somewhere, so 18 is low, but pregnant, and it could be very early pregnancy! I think you definitely must be scheduled a follow up hcg, and I'm thinking of you, hope it all turns out good!!!

Are they going to do another hcg test?  You should ask for one to make sure your levels are going up properly.  That will be the only way to know for sure.  You may just be really early since ur period is unpredictable.  Good luck.

forgot to mention... i have heard miscarriages just happened.. (Scary!) but the pressure in my belly is non painful and only last for a few minutes in the morning when i wake up and start moving around. It fades quickly and I am quite chirp all day.
