Please can anyone help

Hey guys I have a concern and was wondering if any1 could help me out with this.  About a year ago I was in a car accident and the tested my insides for damage.  They fong a cyst in my right ovary about the size of a grape friut if not bigger.  I recently got sick (thought I had the flu) and found out that I was about 6 weeks pregnant.  About a week after that I was spotting really bad so I went to the ER.  They did a ultra sound and blood work.  They tested me positive as well but based on hormone levels I was only 2 weeks along.  The ultra sound showed no signs of pregnancy.  (Dr. told me not to worry about this).  She did see the cyst and expressed that it was very big.  I have a Dr. appointment on the 1st.  I was wondering if the cyst could be causing the morning sickness and tiredness and sore breast that I am having.  Well scatch that I know I am pregnant.  I have heard of women having to have surgery while pregnant.  Could this be cancerous? I am kind of stressing about this.  I have been having alot of spotting all kinds of pain.  They shoot all through my tummy and in my virgina.  And I can't hold down any food.  I am misrable.   Does any1 have any answers?

Hello,

Your symptoms of pregnancy are unrelated to your cyst.   However, ovarian cysts can lead to ovarian torsion (twisting of the ovary) which can present as sudden onset abdominal pain with associated nausea and vomiting.  I suggest you wait to find out if you have a normal intrauterine pregnancy, then discuss the best ways to manage the large ovarian cyst you have.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing
