2X Tuesday!

Okay girls, this is my little project JoyRenee has given me. I am fairly new at this so please hang in there lol. Im going to do my 2x Tuesday a bit different. Instead of always asking 2 questions, I am going to mix it up a bit. So here it goes!

#1- Is a practical reasoning question...Lets see who can guess the right answer first!

#1-Four switches can be turned on or off. One is the lightswitch for the incandescent overhead light in the next room, which is initially off, but you don't know which. The other three switches do nothing. From the room with the switches in it, you can't see whether the light in the next room is turned on or off. You may flip the switches as often and as many times as you like, but once you enter the next room to check on the light, you must be able to say which switch controls the light without flipping the switches any further. (And you can't open the door without entering, either!) How can you determine which switch controls the light?

#2- Here is another practical reason question. Good Luck!

#2-If you put a coin in an empty bottle and insert a cork into the neck of the bottle, how could you remove the coin without taking the cork out or breaking the bottle?

I know the answers...hehe so im not going to cheat and post. Good Luck!

Answer to #1-
Turn on switches 3 and 4 and wait fifteen minutes or so. Then turn switch 3 off,
turn switch 2 on, and enter the room. If the bulb is dark and cool, switch 1 controls it. If the bulb is bright and cool,
switch 2 controls it. If the bulb is dark and warm, switch 3 controls it. If the bulb is bright and warm, switch 4 controls it.

Answer to #2- Push the cork into the bottle and shake the coin out.

Hope you all had fun, hopefully next weeks 2x tuesday will be better.

These are just practicle type questions....not logical. Even if US coins will not fit in a bottle, doesn't mean there isn't a solution to the question. Im going to post the answers later on in the day! I hope atleast SOME of you have fun doing today's post. Like I said I am just doing experiments to find out what people like. I am new at this so a little patience is appreciated!

I will try and do 2 different questions next week, that doesn't involve so much thinking lol.

Turn them on one by one and go check each time in the next room.  don't turn the switches off when you turn the next one on until you find the correct switch.  If I turn them on one by one without turning them off, then I'd be able to remember which one I switched on last (that's what I do at home) .
I agree with Stokie on the second one, push the cork through the neck into the bottle and shake out the coin.

I have NO clue what a 5 pence piece is, all I know is that US coins do NOT fit..

And I don't understand your second sentence, sorry!? It's no big deal, I am just not into trivia/reasoning... Never been my thing..

before the euro came in you could get small spanish coins smaller that a 5pence piece so you would be able to get one in the neck of a bottle. the dorr is closed buy you can open it and walk into the next room

Not going to lie.. Question 1 is confusing and too wordy for me..

The door is closed... Correct?

Questions 2 - I think is silly b/c you cannot get a coin IN a bottle opening to begin with..

I am not sure.. I don't like questions like this b.c it seems there is always is a clear answer and then I feel stupid..

number 1 you filp the first switch then enter the room and check. so on and so forth till you know which one controls the light.

number 2 i think is top push the coin inside the bottle. hence you have taken the cork out of the bottle.

am i right?

Well, after reading question #1 all the way through... I can honestly say I have no idea.
And for #2, I have a guess... perhaps the cork is much smaller than the opening of the bottle, so when you "insert a cork into the neck of the bottle", it just plops right through in which case you can just shake the coin out?  That's all I've got.  =)
