36 weeks

I'm having really bad period like cramps. They last like a minute go away then come back a couple minutes later. Is it just regular pregnancy symptoms or is it contractions? I've been told period like cramps could be contractions but I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? What do actual contractions feel like.

Sounds like contractions. I would actually time them to see if they are regular or irregular. Regular contractions (ones that come every like 10 to 15 minutes and last for a minute then start to get closer) means labor could be near. Irregular ones that come let's say you have one and don't get one for another 10 minutes, then you have one 6 minutes later, then 15 minutes later then 4 minutes later and they last different amounts of times are braxton hicks which you usually get those the last few weeks of pregnancy and it's just your body practicing for the real things.

How did you know it was time to go to the hospital because of the cramps?

If they are 2-3 mins apart prepare to go to the hosp. When mine was 5mins apart i started bleeding and had my son 15mins later after i was admitted. Hosp is 20mins away from my house.

Mimi you will know when your water breaks. Just as Elissia said you usually hear a pop sound. And you will feel something coming out just like when you have your period.

AmKeel, call the ER or labor and delivery. Tell them you're having regular cramps that are getting closer together. They'll tell you to go in. That way you don't walk in unannounced and they treat you like it's "you again".

Now that I'm awake this morning, the cramps have eased up there still there just further apart. But if they get close like they were last night then I'm for sure calling my doctor because I've heard many people now say it is contractions.

AmKeel with me I had pains that came and went but they were just bh but when I was having pains I thought it was normal  but I remember they started and they wouldn't go away I just ignored them and I went to bed this was Saturday 10th January around 21:00 a day before I was due  date and I woke up went toilet and they was still their and so I went back to bed still had them Sunday morning my due date I had my appointment monday 12th just a check up and so I went to see my consultant and she asked if she could do a sweep and I said yh go ahead still had pains when she checked me and I was already 3cms dilated I was shocked because I thought I'd be in pain but I wasnr in pain I only had slight pain and so after all that she done whatever she done and checked babys heartbeat she was ok thank god and she booked an induction day just incase baby wasn't born but she said I wouldn't go over she said with in the next 24hours I'd have baby and I said omg I was excited and when she went I was siting down on the chair for a good 20-30*minutes I was scared I thought if I stood up my waters would of broke and my baby would fall out lmao I didn't want to go toilet either but then I went for a pee lol and my bf rushed up to the hospital he had his driving lesson aswell and I called a taxi to  go to his moms house  and he went to the flat to get my bag and babys bag and erm I called the hospital I wasn't in much pain but I just called them because baby wasn't moving as much she was moving in between contractions but not as much and I went in around 21:00ish on the night  but just to keep it short I had my baby girl 13th January 2015 05 :46 in the morning
