I smoked when I got pregnant with my son and it was hard for me at first too.I just started to decrease the number of cigarettes I smoked a day and then eventually a week until they would make me sick.I finally quit at 15 weeks.my step sister on the other hand didn't care and smoked all through her pregnancy which I thought wasn't right and turns out shes not a good mom anyways.so the fact that u are trying to quit makes u amazing.u can also try chewing normal gum but that never worked for me.

I personally quit smoking by holding off on that cigarette until you start to go through withdrawals. At that point I would take a few puffs to calm down the withdrawals. Withdrawals are harmful to the baby. Once I did this for a little while the baby helped out by making anything to do with cigarettes making me want to puke.

I'm 5 weeks and can't stop. Have I harmed my baby? Will he or she be ok if I quit today?

i am seven weeks pregnant today and everytime i start thinking of smoking and trying to quit i cant help but start crying, im so emotional and the best ive done so far is to smoke only a half a cigarette half the amount of times as i used to, so i guess im down to a quarter of what i used to smoke (a lil more than a pack a day). its soooooo hard and i think the best thing for me to do is to slow down alot and once i get down to just about 4 a day i will just stop, hopefully in the next week. i hope we can all quit, i know i can and will very soon and if i can do it i know anyone can, ive been smoking for 8 years and i have never ever even tried to quit once... this might be the hardest thing ive ever had to do... good luck to all of you

Yay, Rosa!!  I know you can do it! = )
And each day it will get a little easier.  Try to keep your hands busy (doing puzzles, playing Solitaire, lol) when you would normally smoke; in the car was hardest for me.

I can only Speak from Experience i was not a heavy smoker, but when i was 7 weeks i was taking drags here and there and thinking about it way too much. As soon as i became about 8 weeks or so the thought of a Cig made me ill, and i have not even thought about smoking cig ever again, it does not even run through my mind as an option. Im completly cured of that stupid addiction. I hope the same happends for you. Start with little drags here and there and ween down, hopefully by the time you are alittle further you wont even be able to stand the smoke. Now that im not smoking i will never ever go back. good luck!

I will warn you tho....when I quit smoking, I replaced it with chocolate.  Not quite as bad for your health...but it's a killer on your waste line.  It took me about 2 1/2 years to realize I had replaced cigerettes with m & m's.  Try to find something (healthier than i did) to use whenever you start to crave a cigerrette..try mints, gum, heck even cough drops if it helps.

i went through the same thing i had the hardest time quitting! i smoked like half a pack to a pack a day and finally i was down to like 2 cigarettes a day. finally one night i was in the car and i just decided not to smoke anymore so i threw my pack out the window ( very painful thing to do ) but i haven't smoked since. if you dont let yourself have them in reach and you dont let yourself buy them you wont have something to smoke! good luck!

Many people at work suggest the book "How to Quit Smoking" I haven't personally read it as I do not smoke, but I have heard that it somehow helps. Worth looking into. Good job, i'm glad you have atleast cut down that is very hard for many people and it is very good that you want to quit during the pregnancy atleast. Well good luck in all you do.

You'll get there. I smoked before I found out I was pregnant, and slowly started to ween myself. I was about two months before I quit completely. I just got sick of them, I had my first one of the day got about two puffs in and thought I was going to be sick. After that I couldn't do it anymore. Well, I had maybe three or four more the rest of the time I was pregnant, specifically the day my husband left for Korea, but my son is just fine. A friend of mine did NOT smoke her entire first pregnancy her son came out with a few deformities, she DID smoke (not sure for how long) with her second, and her daughter is perfect...you'll be able to do it, you've come a long way already from one whole pack to 3-4.

It is so hard I know I had to quit 3 times with each pregnancy.... But you really just NEED to say that is it... I can not smoke cigerettes while I am pregnant. Think of it this way you can't smoke in a movie theater you can't smoke in the mall you can't smoke in bars anymore either... and you wouldn't because its against the rules in those places...well it's against the rules when you have a life depending on you for its survival so you just can't. Good luck to you I hope it gets eaiser for you!!!

I smoked through my first pregnancy, no I am not proud of it, but it happened. My son was born full term, 8lbs, and never got sick until he had an ear infection the other day. (He's 3 and a half) I miscarried last year and hadn't smoked in two years. There is a lot of studies out there that show ill effects on the baby, but do not let them stress you out. You want to quit and do what's best for your baby and that's all that matters. The only advice I can give is don't quit trying. Eventually you will find that place you need to be to quit.

thanks!! I know ive got to come to a place when i say i know i have to and i know i can but it seems like everytime i get there i give in!!! I dont want to give in anymore...i dont want my baby to smoke..thats what it is me smoking! Ii know i can do it...i was already quit for two days when i found out..then it seems like i have just been so stressed out that i gave in to calm myself down and i figured it would be better for the baby if i wasent stressed! I just dont know how to get to that place again..i can do it but when is the question!? Do  you think my smoking already has done any damage to my  baby and i really dont want to misscarry now..!! If i quit tomorrow is there stilll hope for my baby and for him/her to be healthy??!!

I have quit three times when I found out I was pregnant.  Unfortunately, started again each time, except after my third child.  (Which meant last time, with #4, I didn;t have to quit! Yay! Lol)  I know it is NOT easy, but I just pictured my baby breathing straight smoke and I couldn't do that to my child.  Also, I never got morning sickness, but I got a really weak stomach and sensitive to smells, and cig smoke made me feel SOO ill!  I went from smoking to not even letting other people smoke near me.
I don't know it this helps, sorry, but just maybe do more research on the effects on your baby and it may inspire you to quit.  Good luck!!

It's a really hard thing to do.  I smoked for 12 years...smoked straight through my first pregnancy.  She ended up being born via emergency c-section due to lack of amniotic fluid and growth retardation.  Then I went on to have a miscarriage.  So the next time I got pregnant I smoked my last cigerette the morning after I found out and haven't had one since....the end of december will make 9 years since I quit.  It's not easy and you can want to til you're blue in the face but there has to be that extra something inside you that says "this is it, I HAVE to" Once you get there it's a lot easier.  Believe me I had cravings...lots of them...but I just tried to avoid situations where I would smell it and kept constantly reminding myself WHY I was quitting. Keep trying!!!
