All day all night horrible morning sickness

I am 7.5 weeks pregnant with my first child and for the last week have had horrible morning sickness. On Tues I went to my OB and he gave me zofran to take every 6-8hrs but it's barely helping. They also did an ultrasound, baby measured at 7wks 11.3mm heart rate 155 everything looked great. I just feel SO sick.

My symptoms include: excessive saliva when I start gagging but otherwise dry mouth, dry heaves, nausea, gagging, increased heart rate, weak, fatigue, feel as if I will pass out when sitting up or standing. I am able to eat bread and Gatorade but that is about it. I'm trying hard to keep hydrated but my urine is darker than usual.

I've tried ginger ale, vit B, seasick bands, zofran, rest.. Is there anything else I can do?  I also have hypoglycemia which is only made worse by this. I can't even make it down to the first floor of my house because I'm too weak.

I cannot exercise (I hear that can help) but I'm considered high risk and not allowed to exercise.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm so miserable.

As terrible is this is I'm glad to know I'm not alone but sorry you are experiencing this too. I as well have found milk helps with that burning feeling and slow deep breathes but same as you every night is horrible and seems to be the worst. Are you scared to brush your teeth? Every time that I brush my teeth I have dry heaves for hours afterwards. Mouthwash is a bit easier but there is something about spitting that makes me gag. How strange that our bodies react this way. I've found help from a rx of protonix or over the counter tums (swear I could eat them like candy) and 8mg of an rx for nausia called zofran. Has your dr given you a rx for the puking?

OH I also have found the light blue or light purple Gatorade over ice and watered down stays down, Culver's fastfood French fries and those bags of mini powdered sugar donuts stay down. Also dry cereal and I got lifesaver mints to suck on which help too.

I'm so glad to hear that it's starting to get a bit better for you. I'm 8.5wks now so hopefully I'll feel a bit better soon.

Congrats and I hope you continue to feel better and better :). Is this your first pregnancy?  When are you due?  This is my first, I'm due Feb 16 and after 34mths of fertility treatment and one miscarriage we got pregnant with our first IUI with Clomid and Ovadriel. I have PCOS an arthritic condition, 2 spinal fractures and 1 pelvic fracture (horseback riding accident in March). I'm 27yrs old :). It's nice to meet you!!  Keep in touch

Hi honey, i know exactly where you are coming from, i too am a high risk pregnancy with all day/night sickness, i have empty wretching sick in the morning, crippling nausea all day and full blown projetile vomiting at night (sorry if too much info) this is all with heartburn, indigestion, reflux and bloating.

I try to drink lots of water, which doesnt help with the burning or sickness but i do it to stop dehydrating, (ready bought in 330ml bottles so nice and chilled)
I eat whatever i can bear to, (not a lot sadly) i try to rest and take a rennie if burning becomes unbearable.
Milk helps for a little while and strangely enough if i take some large deep breathes in and hold for few seconds i find temporary relief... oh and lots of litle meals because large dinners sit there all day and just come back up at night,

hope it helps a little, i'm now 10wks 6days and its starting to lighten up a little, good luck xxx

Thank you so very much!!  What a relief to hear that week 7 will probably be the worst. I went in for IV fluids and zofran today and I am already feeling much better. Now I can keep down crackers and dry cereal as well as Gatorade. Thank you so much for your help and encouragement!  You have given me great sense of relief!  Especially to know baby isn't suffering :)

HI!
The GOOD news is that most morning sickness is at its worst at about 7 weeks. So, you are likely to begin a gradual improvement in the next several days.  Many of the things that you tried are excellent.  Here are a few more:  any kind of ginger, especially hard candy;  combine the vitB6 with Unisom for better results; try an antacid such as Prevacid or Prilosec; Hard candy of any flavor is good for hypertyalism ( too much saliva); Zofran, Compazine, Tigan, Inapsine, Vistaril can be administered or prescribed by your doctor.

If my patients go more than 24 hours without keeping down any liquids,  I bring them in for IV hydration and IV medication---this can really help someone who is getting way behind on fluids.

As far as eating--don't even try to eat healthy--just eat whatever sounds good at that particular moment--you can eat healthy later. Blow off your prenatals if necessary.

Finally, remember that worse morning sickness correlates with better pregnancy outcomes, so don't worry that your baby is suffering too--just you ;(

Good luck!
Dr B
