I have been on 25mg of Zoloft for 2 years. I actually increased from 12.5mg when I told my doc I was trying to get pregnant. I was first put on Lexapro 3 years ago when I had a panic attack out of nowhere. I weaned myself off of that and was doing well when I got hit with a whammy! My doc put me on Zoloft and Xanax. I have refilled my Xanax twice only because it was past exp date. Last time I took a 1/2 pill was Aug of 08. My husband and I are trying. ( I think I might be) My doc has advised to stay on Zoloft throughout pregnancy. She feels comfortable with it and would even bump me to 50mg if need be. I am feeling anxious just thinking about being pregnant and wondering if it is ok to take Zoloft. I have been on the internet nonstop and everything I have read is giving a thumbs up. I am going to stay on it and wean myself down during the last trimester due to withdrawal. I say, stay on it if it makes you feel better. It is comforting to know that others are out there with the same concerns I have!
I didn't take it during pregnancy but I was started on 50 mg of zoloft. The side effects are bareable, but they were pretty bad for the first few days. I was really jittery and shaky, and I had no appetite. It can cause sleeplessness so I recommend taking it in the morning. I took it before 11 everyday otherwise I wouldn't take it because then I couldn't sleep. I felt like **** a lot but I mean...it wasn't the end of the world. It almost freaked me out because my anxiety was bad the first day of taking it (obviously becuase I was starting meds for this problem and I was afraid of what it would do). I would say the benefits outweigh the bad stuff(side effects). It was worth going through those rough first days but it got so much better then suddenly my anxiety was just...gone. I almost cried when I realized it was gone! Its such a relief to not have to worry about EVERYTHING! Good luck hun! Hopefully the side effects don't hit you as hard!
I took Zoloft my entire pregnancy and I needed to increase my 50mg dose to 75mg because I was having extreme anxiety. I felt pretty good, emotionally, throughout my whole pregnancy, but my son was extremely, extremely colicky when he was born. Some speculation from the doctors was that because of the increased seratonin from the Zoloft while he was in utero, his body didn't make enough when he was born, causing the colic. There is some research to support a connection between colicky babies and decreased levels of seratonin. Personally, I plan not to take Zoloft during my next pregnancy and see how it goes. Good luck!
Thanks ladies! Did any of you have any side effects? Im going to start it today, and Im a nervous wreck! (go figure)
I no a few women who have taking it threw out there entire pregnancy and some who have stopped in there last trimester, as bimbicat stated, dont stop it abrubtly, who have to tapper your self off of it. I just started on zoloft 2 weeks ago, started with 50mg for a week then 100 mg. I plan on continue taking it threwout the pregnancy. Im a nurse also, but ive been in denial of being very depressed since my m/c in june and other stressors in my life that are over whelming.
i am on 100 mg of zoloft now for ocd and depression since my last child, and the dr has said its safe during pregnancy so im not going to stop it, altho i have been reading and ive heard its advisable to stop in the last trimester, i dont think i will tho the dr said he has many women who have taken it while pregnant.
just remeber to start on a very low dose and dont stop taking it without comming down in dosage first otherwise it can affect you badly it does take a few wks to work but i think it works well . good luck
My Dr. tried to give me a low dose of vistiril for anxiety, I wouldn't take it, but he swore it wouldn't hurt the baby, but my anxiety would. I am a nurse so I have been very stressed about things that unfortunately I KNOW can go wrong, LOL I just decided to try to remain positive, it's been tough though.
Zoloft is fine during pregnancy. I took it with my first and shes fine. I have bipolar and the doc put me on it to help with PPD since it takes a while to get in ur system i took it for a while when i was pregnant.
