Pregnant 25 days after Accutane

I stopped taking accutane the last week of April of 2009. I started my menses on May 11, 09. I went on vacation and did not take my pill at least one day and then i forgot to take it another day but doubled up the next day. I had unprotected sex on the 25th of May. I took a pregnancy test and it came out positive on June15th. What are the chances of severe defects to by unborn child? I am at least 4wks pregnant. Is there anyone that has experienced getting pregnant right after taking accutane and what were the results? Please help!!!!

I think your other half posted a few days ago.  I have been gone for a day or two, so am answering all the questions today--sorry for the delay. When I did the math for you two, it came out OK.  (For the long answer--read the earlier post).  I think your baby has NOT been exposed to the accutane.  I did suggest a first trimester ultrasound for reassurance though.  I don't think you are obliged to terminate for fear of birth defects--luckily.
I do suggest that you get an appointment soon with your OB, so that you can have the ultrasound within the "window of opportunity".  A first trimester termination is much safer and easier than a second trimester termination in the unlikely event that there is a problem.

Ive been taking roaccutane for about 12 mos and stopped for almost 4mos already then had a 20mg dose to get rid of my breakthrough pimples on the 25th of june I had my last menses on the 26th of may.. Im anticipating now that i'm pregnant coz im usually regular with my menses. Will the chils have birth defects?

I just started my accutane treatment on july 20th and expect to be on a 6-month cycle. my husband and i would like to have our first baby in the next few years. in no way am i trying to get pregnant while on this drug and am prepared to wait however long i need to after finishing my treatment to avoid pregnancy complications. however, i would like to start trying about 6 months after finishing accutane. the drug information says you can get pregnant 30 days after finishing accutane without risk for complications...but is this really true? it seems that a lot of people on these boards and stuff say its best to wait a year or longer (i know they aren't medical professionals, but it's hard not to listen...). is there even solid data yet to support the best waiting time?...

Why is that there are so many different answers when it comes to the "waiting peroid" before getting pregnant, after using Roaccutane. From all the doctors and OB's that i ask the answers was to wait at least between 3 and 16 months. I've stoped using Roaccutane on the 13 June '09, (using it for 4 months - 20mg p/m) will it be safe for me to get pregnant end of July or should i wait till after 3 months.

I was on accutane and know I read a lot about getting pregnant while on the meds. It is very very risky to get pregnant while on this medication.  But, you luckily were not actually taking the medication when you concieved.  The medicine stays in your system two weeks after you stop taking it, which would have been around May 14 at the latest.  You didn't concieve until May 24 or later, depending on when you ovulate.  So stay calm.  There are women who get pregnant while actually taking the medication and things are ok.  Obviously this is not ideal and docters usually recommend you wait several months before getting pregnant, but there is lots of hope that things are ok!

I never got pregnant after taking Accutane.  I did used to take Accutane in 2001.  When I was on it.. they said that I need to use 2 forms of Birth Control at all times, and made me read all this material about potential birth defects. I don't want to scare you, but I do remember the problems being severe, like missing limbs completelty, etc.. have you already spoken with your doctor (OB0 and/or your Dermatologist?  They would definately be able to let you know what the specific risks are for you and the embryo.. also what all of your options are.  I with you the absolute best of luck!  Please let us know what the docs say!
