Beta serum quant lower with no heart beat /bleeding

I am pregnant for the sixth time and have had five normal pregnancies and children (which I thank God everyday for).  However, this time around, I began bleeding last Friday.  Called the doc and was told to go to the ER.  They did an internal ultrasound and a Beta Quant.  Told me I am 5 weeks and 2 days pregnant and that the beta amount of 6650 was right on target.  But they could not find a heartbeat.  Of course I am still bleeding...and so was told to come back on Sunday and take another Beta Quant.  This time the amount was lower to 6265 - still no heart beat.  The heart beat I understand is way too early to know anything, but the beta is what is really worrying me.  am I having a miscarriage?  I am still bleeding, with clots, had some cramping a little while ago but no pain really.  OBGYN told me to keep what was "is" supposed to be my first appt on Dec 5, when she'll double check everything....IS there any hope that the baby is still alive?  Please help!?  Thank you and God bless.

I will be 11 weeks pregnant tomorrow and I had some light spotting, early on in my pregnancy. I went to the ER and had a vaginal ultrasound, it showed two sacs only one baby, no heartbeat yet, they said I was to early. I went back not even a week later and they said I was 7 wks 4 days and still no heartbeat. We checked my levels on Fri. they went down low, then Mon. they went up again and I had another vaginal ultra sound last wk and I was a little over 8 wks still no heartbeat. The other sac absorbed, I havent seen my doctor yet but only talked to her. I am waiting for her to call me, the ultra sound tec told me I will probably have to have a D&C. Is there any hope for my baby. Should I have her do my quants once more? or was it too soon for the heartbeat? I just think that is strange, my quants went down when my body absorbed the other sac, my doc said if they go up still it's a good thing. I do have a tilted uterus Thank You please help.

Hi!  You are what I lovingly refer to as a good customer!

Unfortunately with the quantitative beta HCG dropping, unless there is a lab error, you are having a miscarriage.  If you do pass something that looks like a sac, save it in a clean container, and take it in with you to your MD.  Also, if your blood type is Rh negative, make sure you get your Rhogam shot!

Usually once the tissue passes, the bleeding slows way down like a period would. If you haven't needed a D&C then you can try again to conceive as soon as you  like.
Most miscarriages are caused by a mistake of nature--something was wrong with the pregnancy.  So the chance for lots more healthy pregnancies in the future is very good!

As you mention above--be thankful for those healthy ones you do have as you get through this time!

Good luck!

Dear Dr. Brown,

Thank you so much for answering my question.  Unfortunately as you stated I did miscarriage.  I passed a little tiny sack - my little baby who is resting in God's hands was yesterday in mine.  I truly believe that we needed a little innocent angel praying for us up there in Heaven.

Once again, thank you so much for your kind words and answer.

May God bless you abundantly for assisting so many in this forum.

Sincerely yours,

Carla
