I'm also o- but I miscarried my first pregnancy because my baby was positive I still had to get the shot and this is my 2nd pregnancy I'm going to get the shot when I turn 28 weeks.... the first time I got the shot it was in my butt it stings a little
Lil_bit1204 if you are rh+ there is nothing to worry about. It is only rh- women who are affected
Yes it is because your blood type is rh-. The rhogam injection is an injection of plasma which will kill any of the babies blood cells that have possibly entered your blood stream. This stops your blood from attacking these cells and creating antibodies. If the baby is rh+ you will be given another shot shortly after the birth.
I had my shot 3 weeks ago. I'm not going to lie, it hurt, but I was fine in a couple of hours. I walked two miles and then went straight to work for four hours.
I was worried about this also because my husband is a negative blood type and I am a positive blood type. And my ob told me that the only time to worry about it is when the mom is negative and the dad is positive. Is that true
Oh god you telling me not to look at the needle makes me think wtheck is about to happen lol
And no it doesn't hurt. I always get mine in my upper thigh area. Just dont look at the needle :)
Its something about the negative that cant mix with positive. The father of my kids is A positive and im A negative. Both of my kids have A positive blood. Im 31 weeks with my 3rd so we'll see what he comes out with.
Like she said, it has to do with being positive or negative, not the actual blood type. If your negative and the baby has positive blood, it means it's positive for Rh. That means your body will "attack" the baby. It's a very safe procedure and medically necessary. :)
I just been trying to figure it out lol, im still a few weeks away from having to get the injection but I was just curious as to what it was. BTW does the Rhogam injection hurt?
There's always the chance that the babies could be different
Well the father is O+ so would it affect the baby that much if we're both an O blood type? I mean I know nothing about blood obviously lol
Its a shot that protects you and the baby. Since your blood is negative the baby could possibly have the fathers blood and if the 2 bloods mix your blood cells will attack the babys blood cells and kill the baby. Im A- ive had the rhogam with all 3 of my pregnancies
