Congratulations! So sorry that the morning sickness hit you over the holiday.
Here's a few tips to help--
Eating small meals throughout the day instead of three big ones.
Have some crackers or a snack by your bed, so when you get up you can put something in your tummy right away. Sliced apples, slicing lemons (the smell helps some), motion sickness bracelets, ginger or anything with ginger root in it, peppermint (even try some peppermint tea), and Vitamin B6.
Don't have fluids and meals together. Make sure you are drinking lots of water; you need to stay hydrated or it will make it worse. Eat things high in protein and complex carbs. Don't rush around in the mornings; that can make it worse. Stay away from stress as much as possible.
Try slurpees or ices. When it gets really bad they help, and they are not hard on you coming back up.
Think about the flavor of your toothpaste and switch if it is contributing to making you nauseous.
Get plenty of sleep.
Avoid sugar and fatty foods.
Ask your doctor about switching to a prenatal vitamin with a lower amount of iron for your first trimester.
It's really a trial and error thing to see what will help you in this pregnancy- each one is different, I hope you can find something that helps soon!
Congratulations!! It's an exciting time in your life. Although it probably doesn't feel like it with the morning sickness. :-(. It sure came right on schedule at 6 weeks. I had it with my pregnancies and ya, it stinks. I described it to my husband like a constant come and go stomach virus. Things that helped me: I actually benefited by not allowing my stomach to get empty. I carried crackers with me at all times and even had some by my bed. I ate a lot of protein (peanut butter sandwiches for example). I took my vitamins at night as they are known for causing nausea. I drank ginerale or ate crystalized ginger. But mostly, I just dealt with it and tried to relax through it. It left for me in both pregnancies by 13 weeks. Hope you feel better soon. When you DO feel good, eat and keep active.
