Baby shower and gift registry

Hello Ladies,
I hope everyone is doing great.
I have my baby shower for my little one this Saturday.  I am so excited to celebrate my baby with all of my loved ones.  I registered at Target online and in stores.  I got a little curious and peaked at my registry today.  It worried me a little just because I have 45 guests who RSVP'd and there are only 5 items checked off of my registry.  I am greatful to anyone who is thoughtful enough to get me gifts.  I am only worried because the idea of having to buy all of the items myself is a little overwhelming and I am trying to prepare for if I don't get items I need at the shower.  I only registered for maybe 5 items over $50, and the rest of the items are between $5-$40.  My question is out of all of you new moms, did you actually get the items that you registered for?  Or did you find yourself having to pay for most of the items you needed after your shower?

Heather,

Don't feel guilty for taking a peek. I keep track of the purchased items every day! lol  You see, my shower is on 7/11....and there are 11 purchased items. However, I've actually received much more than what the registry says. So I actually have a lot of stuff; it's just people find the same things cheaper, or they end up buying what they want any ways and don't even look at the registry, like my mom and my mother in law. Those two keep buying me stuff I haven't even asked for lol. Don't worry about it. I'm sure you will get tired of opening gifts at your shower :-)

i got seriously 2 things off of my registry..and i had two baby showers! i have a lot of older relatives who havent had babies in at least 20 years and i guess they must have forgotten what was important and what wasnt...i got a whole lot of clothes (people love to buy cute baby clothes) but ironically i got them in way bigger sizes...like 12 month sizes which i didnt find very useful and was semi disappointed with my first shower. the second shower was thrown by my own mother (first was by my mother in law) and i got a lot more things that i actually needed because my mom talked to a lot of my relatives about what i "wanted" pretty much no one even used my friggin registry tho and i was upset because i put a lot of thought and energy into it! but later into my pregnancy when i got stuck on bedrest and was totally overwhelmed with everything i had to get done i got a big surprise when my mom and grandmother came over to my apartment with bags and bags of everything off my registry that i didnt get from my showers (which was a lot) so i feel very very blessed and ended up with everything i needed AND wanted right at the last minute.

With a registry, you need to keep in mind that, while you're essentially telling your guests what you want/need, there will ALWAYS be someone who wants to go out on their own and get you something cute they saw, or something they used with their baby that they think you'll appreciate having for yours, too, etc.  Some people may just give you Target gift cards as well so you can complete your registry as you see fit.

As far as buying things off of a registry and not bothering to check them off so that the mother-to-be knows what has been completed and what hasn't....I think that's a bit inconsiderate.  You have enough things to think about without having to go through it with a fine tooth comb, trying to figure out what you have and what you still need.

Heather-  I'm a big snoop too...  My shower isn't till the 5th and I think 8 things have been purchased off my registry thus far.  (thankfully most of the bigger items have been purchased)  I'm guessing by my parents.  I'm guessing that some people haven't shopped yet and others chose to buy things that weren't off the registry.  I'm hoping I won't have to buy too much after the shower.  It's so hard to wait and be patient.

Cassandrajane- my sister in law is throwing it for me... I just gave her a list of addresses and she is doing everything else.  I registered at Target before she ordered the invites and she placed the info at the bottom of the direction sheet (not on the actual invite).  I went in with the gun and took a long time mom with me, so I only added items I would use (I tried to do this myself before and walked out of the store didn't know where to start...lol).

Everyone else thanks for your input.  I feel guilty for even looking at my registry, but couldn't help myself...lol.  I will try to put this out of my mind until after the shower, just the idea of how much everything costs freaked me out.  I cannot wait to see everyone that is coming gift or no gift :)

I had a lot of items that i registered for...just it seems that some people viewed the registry before they shopped and didnt actually use the registry when they checked out or knew that they should show it....im sure u will end up with lots of your items....and some things u registered for u will find that you may never use especially after talking with other moms!

I've always had a question about baby showers.
Cause sometimes they are different. Do they get thrown for you and you ask for the gifts like for weddings with the gun thing and youu get and do barcodes,
or do you throw them yourself!

if that makes any sense?

haha

but congrats and I hope you have SO much fun :)

I received almost everything I registered for...but no one checked it off on the registry so I got a few double-ups...I wouldn't worry about it:)

6 years ago....lol...i rememeber i registered at a place called baby depot and was worried when my mom brought up that not many things were checked off my registry...it turns out that most people saw what i wanted and went and found it cheaper places

it most likely is just that people went and bought items and just didnt check them off your registry.....the turnout at my baby shower was awesome...i didnt need to buy anything after it

my friend is having a baby shower for me this august for this little one....im hoping the turnout is the same

btw...i chose target for my registry too and do not have many items over $50...i like target since the clothes are cute and prices are cheap

have fun this saturday :)
