Milk of Mag helped me with that issue. Granted doesn't good but does wonders to get rid of that issue. Doctor also told me to use 200 mg stool softeners daily to keep me regulated.
I'd start out with prune juice or apple, then move to other methods. If you go more than 4 days without a bowel movement call your doctor.
Drink lots of water, eat more fiber, add fruits, activia yogurt, prune juice(yuck) if you can find it plum smart juice is much better, spicy foods, just to name a few. Avoid rice, bread, bananas, apples. I wouldnt take meds unless your dr directs you too. Some over the counter meds for constipation can dehydrate you which will cause contractions. Good luck.
