I had brown spotting with both my children and they are now a healthy two and a healthy three years old! Brown blood is safe because its considered 'old blood' its red blood that is a cause for concern. The smell just may be from it being, old blood. Hope that helps...

Hi!
You probably had a subchorionic hemorrhage. This is a bleed between the wall of the uterus and the gestational sac.  Most often these heal and cause no further problems other than some light bleeding for a few days.  Other times they worsen and can lead to miscarriage.  It will be important in the coming weeks to check to see where the placenta is located.  Placenta previa ( placenta covering the opening of the uterus )
is more common after c sections.
Good luck!
