Cradle cap

I know this goes in the maternal & Child forum but I know some of you here have great advice to give as well.
I think Riley might be getting cradle cap, but I'm not sure.. His skin looks dry and kind of flaky, sort of. And his has a smell to it, this is going to sound weird, but almost like mashed potatoes... Hah.. Anyways, I don't understand why because I wash his scalp really well when I bathe him. I "scrub" it lightly with my fingertips, my grandma told me it helps to prevent cradle cap.. It makes me feel bad, like I'm doing something wrong when something like this happens. Or not doing enough, or something..
Anyways my question is, how do you know if they have it, and what can you do about it?

The baby oil and/or olive oil is used to moisturize the dead skin making it easier to brush away. This should help. You could work the oil into Riley's hair, brush, wash using a gentle head message, and rinse. That way the hair is clean and less oily.

They also have a cradle cap shampoo that you can get next to the regular baby shampoos.  I can't remember the name of it, but it is specifically for cradle cap.  But some of the above remedies may also work.  The shampoo maybe a bit expensive.  I think it's like 5 or 6 dollars but you won't have to buy anymore ever.  The cradle cap shouldn't last too terribly long and a little bit of that shampoo goes a long way; especially on their little heads :)

yes, baby oil or anything else the ladies suggested. you leave it on for a few minutes to absorb and lightly brush with a baby brush.  there is also a special cradle cap stuff made, you can buy it at walmart of target and it has winnie the pooh on the front and it is for cradle cap.

Sounds like he does have it. Apricot oil gently rubbed into his scalp should work a treat.
Or even just regular baby oil. Try not to scrub too much or too hard as this may aggravate it. Good luck.
