What are the chances of Miscarriage

I went to the doctors the other day. I was 7w5d. I am 8 weeks today.. Seen and heard the heart beat at 167bpm. She said that there was a small blood sac that will more and likely aborsorb. she said that my chances of miscarriage are  very slim.. I was just wondering if you agree or not.

I don't want to be the downer in all of this, but be careful of what the dr. tells you.  I had my ultrasound at 10w4d and the baby was extremely active and the heartbeat was 164bpm.  We had a routine dr. visit the next week (so I was 11w4d) and the heartbeat was 157bpm which they said was really good.  They also told me the you have less than 5% chance of a miscarriage once you hear the heartbeat.  Well at my 16w appointment they couldn't find the heartbeat and rushed me into ultrasound and they found out that the baby was dead and it stopped growing at 11w.  I had what is considered a "missed miscarriage" where the body continues to act pregnant even though the fetus is dead.  I found this out April 15, 2008.  It's been extremely hard and I now don't trust the statistics that drs. tell you.  I've had a lot of complications with all of this.

Hello,

I'd agree with your ob or midwife.  The presence of a normally developing early pregnancy with a fetal heart beat in the normal range is quite reassuring.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing

I dont think its accurate to go on whether or not you will miscarry based on the babies heartbeat.  Some people hear the babies heartbeat for the first time and it is only 84 or 85 bpm and they go on to have a healthy pregnancy.  Others hear it and its 160 and they m/c.  Your baby could have a normal heart but other underlying problems.  Even a doctor has to make estimated guesses from time to time.  All you can do is hope for the best.  I hope everything goes well.

I am 8 weeks yesterday. When I went for my u/s the Dr told me anything from 160-180 bpm is good and lowers your chance of a miscarriage to 5%. I"d say your good to go congrats! I had my ultra sound done when I was 7wks and 3 days and the baby's heartbeat was only 124 doc says it's fine though.
