Well technically you can refuse it. Tell them you want a VBAC and if they tell you no, say you won't schedule a c-section and you'll show up in labor. I do NOT under any circumstances want you to NOT go to the hospital or wait a long time to go in, because there are a lot of risks VBACing and not being monitored, so when you do go into labor, please do go to the hospital.
Yes that's what my mother said cause she dont want me with another c-section as well....just wait until im in labor and refuse it
Many hospitals have adopted the policy of once a c-section always a c-section due to the high percentage of lawsuits if something does go wrong with a VBAC. There are risks with every delivery and I believe everyone should be evaluated on the basis of their own pregnancies not just a blanket policy however this isn't possible in our sue happy world.
There are many successful VBAC's but also many that are not and do result in emergency hysterectomys and death of the baby.
If you wait until the end and go into labor and show up at the hospital in labor it's not like they can kick you out on the street and refuse to allow you to attempt the VBAC.
That's irritating. You don't sign the papers until the day of the c-section. I would seriously refuse it. Tell them you've had a VBAC before and say you want to attempt it again.
I havent signed anything, My first four babies were delivered by the same doctor at the same hospital he knew me and my feelings but it just so happen that i couldnt go back to him with this one because i waited to late to make my first appointment and the medicaid program at that hospital wont take you after a certain amount of weeks..I had to have a c-section with my second, and fourth child because they would not go into the birthing canal they was stuck up way to high in my stomach and i was in labor for to many hours with my water bag being broken he was scared of infection so we opted for the c-section with my first and third child they was low and ready to come out...yeah what are the odds...
Why did you have a c-section with the fourth? You've had a vaginal birth, which proves you CAN do it. One thing a lot of women don't know is you do NOT HAVE to have a c-section, it is an OPTION, and you HAVE to sign papers before they can perform one. I was told with my second baby I'd have to have a c-section if I didn't see an OB that was able to do them first before I had her...I didn't see him because he wasn't there the day of my appointment. His nurse said that if I went into labor I'd have to let the on call doctor decide...not the case. I went into labor two days before I was due and went to labor and delivery...the doctor came in and asked if I was having another c-section, I flat out told him NO. He said "so you're attempting a VBAC" and I said yes. And under 24 hours later I delivered my daughter vaginally. I had pitocin to help my contractions as well. I strongly recommend you find another doctor without this so called "policy" or tell your doctor you refuse the c-section, and want to try a vaginal birth. They can NOT just bring you in and tell you you're having a c-section, you HAVE to sign the permission for it.
Yes! Doulas are great! You need and advocate in these situations.
Best wishes!
Thanks i really dont want another my first VBAC went so well i mean no problems at all,I really want another one and i will look into my rights as well..
Thanks,
And just to let you know, I've known of more than a few women who have had wonderful VBACs after 2, 3, 4, and in some cases FIVE previous c-sections! it is possible..you just need to find an experienced and supportive provider.
So you want another vaginal? I think that's great! the best thing you could do at this point is begin researching your rights. Is there another hospital, another midwife, you could deliver at/with?
Unfortunately your story is all too common. Many OB's and nurses today still hold with the old (and outdated) theory that VBAC puts you at too high of a risk for uterine rupture, and that both you and baby are at risk of dying. Fortunately, this has been proven untrue, and in fact women who are induced with pitocin during a normal vaginal delivery are apparently at EQUAL risk for uterine rupture to a non-induced woman attempting a VBAC....but I've heard that excuse before. "You don't want your uterus to burst and your baby to die, do you?" My MIL, who is an OB nurse, fed me that line the other day when we were talking about my husband's cousin and I was flabbergasted to say the least...I had to show her the research about the pitocin! She said in her hospital that this new research had never even been discussed among the staff....
so my point is, it's not uncommon for medical providers to be behind the time on VBAC information. We have had many women on here who have had to fight, and fight hard, for their right to attempt a VBAC...and I haven't heard of one "exploding uterus" out of all the VBAC stories I've heard.
I would say if finances allow it (expect the fee to be no less than $100, but usually not more than $300) find a doula in your city who is familiar with VBACs....this is a labor coach who will not only help you research and exercise your rights, but is experienced in standing up to doctors and medical staff when you aren't being given the right to make your own choice (within safe parameters, of course).
I'm hoping some of the ladies who have had VBACs will come by (I'll message some friends) and speak to you...but in the meantime, try looking up Doulas in your town and call around to other local midwives.

My understanding is that everyone woman has the right to try to birth vaginally after cesarean. I'm not sure if your midwife is saying that because you have had two. The midwife should give you more of a explanation but know your rights.
