Diaper Rash

Does anyone know if a diaper rash can itch? Or is it possible a yeast infection can? It seems slightly silly to call her doctor about it, so I was hoping to get an answer from you ladies. :)

I would think the yeast would itch, just as it would for us.  I use the regular formula of Lotrimin.  Then I put Desitin and then powder.  It works like a charm and it doesn't burn either.  I actually got this from my doctor and it works really well.  The powder helps keep the diaper from sticking to her skin.

Hm.. I've never had a yeast infection (or any infection until I had my UTI) so I don't know much about them. Kylie has had a rash for almost 3 weeks now. It comes and goes in varying terms of severity. It looks blistered at times, but other times just looks red. She's also been scratching and tearing at the vaginal region whenever I take her diaper off of her. Since she's only 8 months I figure it's due to itch or pain, and isn't a sexual sort of thing---I imagine that's beyond her comprehension right now. I don't know when it's severe enough to have her doctor see her either. Is it possible formula could do this? It's been going on since we started her on it.

Both can itch. How long has she had the rash? Have you tried the cornstarch trick. If not maybe try that and if by morning it isnt going away call the doc. Just put some dry cornstach down there.

3 weeks, off and on. We've tried everything we can think of and nothing is working. No new diapers, no new wipes..this is the first rash she's ever had like this. She had one when I was breastfeeding, but it was because of a diaper brand we tried.

I'd say call the pedi and take her in. Perhaps they can either do testing or prescribe something for it.

I agree with penswriter- call your dr and take her in to get it checked out. Those rashes can really be uncomfortable and they can write a script that will clear it up within a couple days. My daughter has had a yeast rash and also a bacterial rash both can't be treated with regular over the counter meds and we had to get something from the dr. They see that kind of thing all the time. Thank you all. I'm making her an appointment. I just changed her diaper again and she's starting to bleed and is screaming in pain when I change her. I think she's scratching herself and clawing so hard it is making her bleed.

Yeast infections do itch and burn.  I used my remedy when mine were that bad.  It actually worked better than the script they gave me.  The script they gave me (the first one) actually didn't work but this one did.  I used it when my kids had the cracked and bleeding and screaming in pain too.  It's so sad, but if she can't be seen today, I'd run to the pharmacy and get the Lotramin.  You will be surprised.  Good luck!  Oh, and when I get powder, I use the corn starch without perfumes or chemicals...just straight cornstarch.

When my daughter had a yeast infection, the actually script they gave me (the 2nd one), made her burn like fire but this worked.  Imagine that??  I hope she feels better soon.

Thank you everyone for the help!! We ended up just taking her to the Children's Medical Center and it was just a yeast infection. The doctor said Kylie was the 5th she'd seen that day. We got two kinds of things to use on it, and it seemed to help. She didn't claw at herself for once. Maybe it's something in the water?

(I actually did try Lotramin, and it didn't work. :( I tried Vaseline, baby power, Desitin, Lotramin, A&E and everything else I could think of to no effect. I hope this works though!!)

Well, the Lotramin will actually take a day or two to get rid of the rash.  And if it is that bad, you will see signs of improvement in that amount of time, but it won't be gone completely.

But I am glad she was seen and feeling better.  Normally when mine are Kylie's age, I don't bathe them every day, but when they get these rashes I do, just to get some clean water down there.  I just don't use soap.

Anyway, I do hope she feels better really soon :)

What did they give her for the yeast infection? My daughter used to get yeast infections because it gets so humid and hot here in FL that every summer no matter how many times I change her, it just gets damp, and they gave her ketoconazole cream and it works WONDERS. it can sting so if that's what they gave you don't be surprised if she winces when you first put it on if she's raw.

She has a creme they make in the hospital called Magic Butt paste (it has Quesytan and Maalox in it) and Nystatin. It's already looking better

Yeah, before I was told about the Lotramin, I was told to put Maalox directly on Mary and one of the scripts they gave me was Nystatin.  Lotramin is also anti-fungal but for some reason, that one didn't burn but the Nystatin did big time.  Maybe the fact that your medication was a combination of all those components, made the difference in the stinging.

Glad she is feeling better.  I can't stand to see my kids sick or in pain...especially when they are that small :(
