Does one day make a difference in a pregnancy test result?

I'm having a lot of anxiety over whether or not I am pregnant.....Let me first say that my periods have never been regular, my cycle can go up to 40 days or more, so I never really know when Im ovulating unless I pay $25 for one of those tests. On average, my cycle is AROUND 38 days. This also causes confusion as to WHEN  I am supposed to take a pregnancy test because all the test say to take them day after missed period but I never know when that is.....I took a test yesterday (supposed to be an early response one) and it came back negative....if I take it tomorrow or in a couple of days will it make a difference???????
Some background info:
- My last period started AROUND April 20th, 2012....the day we tried to conceive was May 13th, 2012 (today is May 24th).....According to websites that helped me calculate ovulation with an irregular period, it is very likely I was ovulating then.
-  Ive looked up online to see if anyones had symptoms so early on in pregnancy and the majority of women say they feel fuzzy in their uterus, their boobs get sore, they have lots of gas, and theyre extremely tired. I do feel very heavy and bloated for the past week, my boobs started getting sore yesterday, I have had a lot of gas and I have been EXTREMELY tired.......but arent these all symptoms we experience before periods????? How am I supposed to know the difference????
-  Ive been having unprotected sex at least 3x a week (pull-out method) for almost a year and never been pregnant, does that mean im not fertile????
- Ive been moody lately, but i dont know if its the anxiety of the whole situation thats making me this way or if its hormones

Please help me!! When am i supposed to take a pregancy test with an irregular period and does one day make a difference???????

Yea a couple days does make a difference.my conception date was Nov 29 and I took a test at the doctors on Dec 8 and it was negative. Went back to the doctor a few days later and it was positive. I used the pull out method for a long time and never got pregnant. Now I'm 89 days away from having my lil man and we did not use the pull out method, so I don't think ur not fertile. It will happen I would just say don't stress yourself to much about it. :) good luck

I have irregular cycles too. Those calculators don't work for me either. What we do/did was figured out that I could ovulate anywhere with in a two week period during the cycle and went about our business as if I was fertile during those two weeks. It's actually a little more full proof than pinning down a 48 hour ovulation time. It means a lot more sex too :)
And don't worry about the pull-out method being effective for you. It worked for us for about 5 years...I ended up getting an IUD because I thought my luck would run out. We have a child so it doesn't mean you aren't fertile if the method worked for you.
And...this is your first cycle that you have allowed for pregnancy. It may take some time to get pregnant. It is an absolute miracle even under perfect circumstances. You should try testing again next Tuesday if your period doesn't come.
Good Luck!

Since your cycles are irregular those ovulation calculators probably aren't accurate as they are based on "averages." So if you started around April 20th today would be cycle day 34 or 35, meaning you could have tested too early. Even on early result tests a lot of women don't get a positive until the day their period is due. So I would wait 3 more days and test using your FIRST PEE of the day as pregnancy hormones will be the most concentrated and accurate. If it is negative and your period still doesn't show, wait another 3 or 4 days and test again.

A good rule of thumb is to test two weeks after unprotected sex.

If you're trying to conceive, why is your partner pulling out?
