Does this sound normal to you?

I went in for my second timester ultrasound, and tech could not get good measurements on some of the things she was looking for. The baby wouldn't turn over for her either. She told me the heart rate was good and the measurements she did take were good also. She told me that I would have to come back for another u/s to get better measurements. On my next OB appt. two weeks later, the doctor told me all the measurements the nurse took were good, but she couldn't get a couple. Apparently, I was told, this could be due to the babys positioning in my uterus. When I went to check out, the woman told me I was scheduled for my next regular OB appt in four weeks and an ultrasound, meeting with genetics counsellor and doctor all in one day. Now, I called to see why I would be scheduled for gen counselling and if there was something wrong, but they never said for dure if there was anything wrong. The only thing they told me was that the tech couldn't see the diaphragm of the baby.
Is scheduling genetic counselling normal if they don't know if anything's wrong?
If there were something wong with my baby's diaphragm, what could it possibly be?
being a first time mom, and 18 years old, I am very worried!
All of your advice will help!
Thank you,
Courtney

Another thing to consider is that your tech didn't get a good photo, but there is a great chance that nothing is wrong. If it were me and may something was wrong I would want to have an appointment all set up and ready to go in the off chance that my next ultrasound yielded bad results. Sometimes there is a waiting list to get an appointment. I would hate to have to wait another 2, 3 or 4 weeks to talk to them.

When I went in for my 17 week ultrasound they didn't get a good picture of the face, and they weren't sure if the baby had facial features, or a cleft or if everything was normal. They scheduled me for another U/S a week later. I couldn't take the wait so I paid for a gender U/S out of pocket and had the tech get great pics of her face. It was WELL WORTH my $80 for the scan. Plus I got to find out what I was having!

Best of luck. I'm praying that everything is normal, and your baby is healthy!

thanks,
i believe that condition you were talking about is gastroschistis or anencephaly.
i looked both of those up and i don't believe that i saw that on the ultrasound, although i am not a trained professional.
i saw ultrasound pics of what it would look like and i dont recall seeing that on mine.
thank you for the suggestion.
my next ultrasound is on tuesday (4.14) and i will post what the results are.
Wish me luck :)

This happened to a friend of ours.
some babys don't develop the diaphrams correctly and so it can lead to the bowels coming up in their chest cavity and so their heart and lungs could potentially not develop well and the chance of survival depends based on this.  There's different levels of it and I can't remember what its called.
Anyway good luck. It seems that your doctors are trying to handle the situation as best as they can without worrying you until they know more about it.

you need to ask them specifically if they know if something is wrong with your baby's diaphragm, as you not knowing is worrying you.

you could call the hospital and ask them these questions, as they should have kept you informed. all i can do is speculate and what i suspect is that they're not sure if they couldn't see the diaphram just because of baby's position. in this case, it makes sense to perform another u/s, when hopefully baby will be in a better position for them to fully check out the diaphram. i guess your meeting with the gen counsellor is precautionary, in case there is something wrong with the diaphram. I'm sure you would have been told if there was a definite problem.
