Does yogurt helps yeast infections?

I read on yahoo about women who dip a tampon in plain yogurt, and insert it in their vagina's when they have a yeast infection. I dont want to do that. I never stick a tampon in unless I have AF. Does yogurt help the yeast infection if you eat it instead? DH is buying me some vagisil(sp) on his way home. I have plenty of yogurt in the fridge.... will it help? This is the first yeast infection I've ever had. Its strange after TTC, I suddenly got a yeast infection. Heh.

I don't know about dipping a tampon, but I know eating yogurt is supposed to help. I am allergic to most of the creams and thus usually have to get a prescript from Dr, but friends tell me that monistat 1 works wonders. It is quick and easy to use.

Yes, that's it, but you can also get the cream instead of the supposatories (sp??).  I too am allergic to the OTC medicines so I have to get a prescription from my doc.  There is a pill call Diflucan that you can take but your doctor would have to prescribe it for you.  It's just 1 pill that you take 1 time.  I've used it a few times and it has worked for me.

Diflucan is what I usually take as well. 'Cause I am allergic to the creams, my doc usually writes me a script for 2-3 so that I have one on hand if I need it. I got one a couple of weeks ago and was out so he wrote me a script for 7. He said being preggo makes them more prevalent too since there is a change in our PH during pregnancy.

Yes you can dip natural yoghurt on tampons and insert it.i doubt eating it would make it go away, since the yeast infection isnt in the mouth.i have used it before it does work...

well still waiting to test for a BFP. The only things I've had so far are swollen nipples with blue veins that seem to float on top of my nipples... Its not constantly like that but the past few times I've looked at them they have been. So, waiting it out. I ovulated early this time...

Anyways, I wonder if vagisil is gonna help. Hmm. We'll see.

to avoid the grossness of putting yogurt on your hoo-ha, try yogurt pills (acidophillus) or buy AZO Yeast, I've used AZO Yeast pills for all my yeast infections and it relieves it in a day or two. These pills are a combination of natural herbs and yogurt cultures and it balances your vaginal PH.  That stuff is awesome, it relieves the itching and burning in a couple of hours too.  Yogurt is ok but doesn't work as fast.

Eating yogurt will help because it contains natural, healthy bacterias that will kill the yeast.

But as far as sticking it you-know-where... I would ask a medical professional because you don't want to make it worse! Yeast grows in dark, moist places and yogurt would get warm pretty fast and it's moist.

Yeah, thats why I dont want to use a tampon. I can't stand the thought of using during AF most times. But its too sore to be putting one in anyways. I want to get rid of it ASAP. Will a yeast infection interfer with a pregnancy test?? I'm not testing until later on. Maybe in a week 1/2. How long do they typically last?

Umm, I have NEVER heard of of dipping a tampon in yogurt... I personally would NOT try this, but who knows?! ; )

I have had 2 yeast infections in my life and both times I did the over the counter Monistat 3. I have never tried Vagisil, but the Monistat helped within 24 hours, and cleared totally in 2-3 days. Good Luck. I know how uncomfortable yeast infections are.

Honestly I WOULD NOT stick yogurt up there...especially if you are TTC or preg.  You never know what kind of a reaction you could have.  There IS natural bacteria in yogurt that is supposed to help regulate your bodies natural bacteria.  You can get the monistat ovules which are the pill shaped vaginal suppositories...if you can put a tampon in you can insert those.  The same with the cream.  Some of the vagisil and monistat kits come with the ovules or cream that you insert into the vagina PLUS a cream for external itching.  You can try these OR you can see your GYN for a prescription.  But i would recommend putting the yogurt in your MOUTH not your VAGINA :)

I wouldn't stick the yogurt up there either.  It is called acidophillus, this is the natural culture in yogurt that prevents yeast infections.  You eat it once a day or you can take the pills that they sell in drug stores if you get sick of eating yogurt.

I had to laugh at the response to this question, this is a remedy my gran gave me many many years ago.not to everyones taste...The most common home remedy for vaginal yeast infections is non-sweetened yogurt that contains active bacteria. Many commercial brands do not contain live acidophilus bacteria, so be sure to read the label. Nancy’s Yogurt, made in Oregon, contains several different types of live cultures and may help you re-establish your yeast/bacteria balance.
if you use one of these products or put yogurt in the vagina, you should also eat a cup of unsweetened yogurt every day as well. You need a strong population of acidophilus in your intestinal tract to help build up your natural defenses and keep your infection from coming back.
Some people put yogurt in the vagina instead of eating it, in order to get the acidophilus down where it’s needed more quickly, but some studies have shown that this is not needed or effective. If you want to try it, you can insert the yogurt directly into the vagina by dipping a tampon (the kind without an applicator, like the OB brand) into unsweetened yogurt and then inserting it into the vagina. Remove the tampon after an hour or so.

You can also freeze yogurt in the fingers of a sterile plastic glove, and then insert the frozen

yogurt popsicle in the vagina like a tampon. This can be a bit messy, so you may want to use a sanitary pad for a few hours. Believe it or not, the icy yogurt will feel good against your inflamed vaginal walls.

I stated I am not wanting to stick a yogurt tampon in my va jay jay!! LOL
Which is why I asked if eating it would help. haha. If you ladies go to google or yahoo and type in tampon dipped in yogurt for yeast infection, you'll see what I saw.
Theres no way I would consider that. *shutters* lol
I wonder who thought of that anyways.

I'm going to try vagisil and if it doesnt help within 3 days I'll try something else. Trying to avoid the doctor right now. So, maybe itll help.

From what I understand and know from my own experience, Vagisil will only help control the symptoms but won't actually get rid of the infection.  And it normally burns when you first put it on but then it does help with the burning and itching for a while.

I need something to help with the burning  and itching.. I'll be eating plenty of yogurt and if nothing helps, I'll be going to the doctor. Quick question, after you ovulate and a possible conception might of occurred, can you get a yeast infection? I've heard pregnant women get them a lot more. Like I said I'm TTC now, past ovulation, and this is my first yeast infection in my life.

I get yeast infections all the time, i always have, and if you get the stuff over the counter where you put like this jelly stuff up in your vagina its not messy.  It takes it away right away.  Yogurt takes too long and its more of a preventive thing.  Vagisil works but it doesnt cure it.  Monostat (sp?) works wonders for me.  Sometimes you cant get the pill from your doctor if your pregnant they recommend the creams over the counter.  Good luck i know how you feel.  They suck.  but now im so used to them it doesnt bother me hahah
