Drugs during pregnancy and testing

Everytime I see someone post about using drugs while pregnant, several people usually comment about drugs showing up in the baby's first poop (starts with an "m". I don't know how to spell it lol). Do they test every single baby when they are born or just if they suspect drug use? I'm honestly just curious. I've never used drugs or even smoked a cigarette in my life. So they test for drugs and alcohol? And how far back does it show? I mean say you had a glass of wine 2 days after conception, would that show up?

Oh I'm not worried about it personally. Like I said, I've never used drugs or smoked cigarettes or anything. I haven't had a drink in about 3 years cuz I've been pregnant for 2 (back to back) and was breastfeeding before I got pregnant this time so I couldn't drink anyways. I was just curious cuz I see a lot of posts about it. :)

Illinois does do drug testing  a couple of years ago they told me i tested positive for weed and if i tested positive when i can't in for labor they would take my daughter but i had already stopped smoking. when they.put the iv in you and take that tube if blood they are testing you for drugs... when they prick your babies foot... they are testing for drugs...it's just a precaution

I live in PA and know several women that smoked weed throughout their pregnancies..  None of their kids were taken away.  I'm not saying they dont test at all,  but if they do its not consistent.

Illinois does not, unless you have admitted drug use to your OB or unless your baby has drastically failed the apgar test for no apparent reason. They will test the baby In this case In order to find out why the baby isn't responding correctly.

I live in Missouri. Yes they do! And most doctors offices will give you drug tests each visit with your urine sample as well. I know someone that was seing her doctor on a month to month basis. Each time they would check her urine.. they would do a drug test. She called me and told me that if she failed one more drug test that they were taking the baby away in the hospital. Her doctor was my doctor and she was upset with me about it. I dont do drugs nor did I know she did them. I had no idea that they tested for drugs while your pregnant.. Well, they didnt have a reason to tell me. So, to.answer your question.. In Missouri they do the drug test after your baby is born and most doctors do during pregnancy as well

@Sarahdawn1990 yes it is really sad, esp some of the older kids that they get because from the drugs they have a lot of problems. Idk if they are able to test this at the hospital but I know she has gotten kids whose mom drank and they have mild cases of fetal alcohol syndrome. A lot of the stuff though is found later in life...

But I wouldn't worry, I got pregnant on my wedding night, and literally drank everyday on my honeymoon and my doctor said that early in pregnancy won't affect the baby because baby hasn't implanted (I never got totally drunk, but had a drink with lunch and dinner everyday.)

Thats true florida doesnt unless theyre suspicious. Then what they do is the flag the motger and when she signs in at the hospital it pops up and they know to test her and inform her after she has given birth that they will be testing.  Ut dloridas health plan is a little differently handled than a lot of the other states if I remember correctly.

Florida don't test every baby. My two yr old had to be tested due to pain meds given by Dr. They wanted to make sure the baby would bot have withdrawals once sent home. I was charged because a drug test was preformed.

I know South Dakota, Ohio and Pennsylvania test. If your baby shows up with drugs unfortunately they put the child directly into foster care. I have friends who are foster parents in all 3 of these states and get babies A LOT!

It really depends on the state. Florida is like one of the top states that tests for drugs. They test everyone's babies.

Yes they test every baby, its just a standard practice every one has to do.
No wine and alcohol does not show up. But any drug taken during your pregnancy will show up in babies poop

Im sure they dont test for alcohol though, since things like foetal alcohol syndrome are noticeable til years down the road, so im sure that works through the baby.

At the hospital I delivered at they test them all. Its in the paperwork they send home. It isnt JUST for that but lets face it no druggie is going to be honest and risk CPS and for the safety of the baby the hospital has to know if baby could go through withdrawals or have other complications.
