Ectopic/Empty sack

I don't know what is happening and my doctor is at a loss also.  I had a positive pregnancy test on Jan. 11, 2008.  (I don't know my dates, so not sure how far along) I had light spotting on Jan. 19th.  Went in for an ultrasound on Jan. 22, was told it was an ectopic pregancy.  I had surgery on Jan. 23 to remove the pregnancy.  Yesterday, Jan. 29, I was told that the pathology from surgery showed NO ECTOPIC!  They rushed me into ultrasound to search for it again, but found nothing in the tubes or ovaries.  They do see a sack in the uterus, but it is abnormally shaped and they do not see a fetal pole or heartbeat.  My hcg levels are increasing.  They were at 131,000 yesterday.  I have to check them again tomorrow, Jan. 31 and I'm scheduled for another ultrasound on Feb. 6.  The doctors don't know what to tell me!  They told me to wait and see what happens.  My question is:  is there a chance that this is a viable pregnancy and if so, what about all the drugs I had for the surgery last week?  Is there no chance of a viable pregnancy and how long will they "wait and see" before doing a D&C or something?  This is the craziest thing I"ve ever heard of!!!  I hate the waiting!

i am in tears reading your story! how amazing!
i had an ectopic rupture in october, and unfortunately my pregnancy and tube were removed. everyday i wished for a miracle, even though i knew it wasn't possible. this child you carry is indeed a miracle. cherish your baby always.   i wish you all the best with your pregnancy. congratulations!

I`m so happy for you!!!!  I was sure that everything will be ok. Yes it is a miracle baby and  strong also. Don`t worry about surgery. It can`t damage your baby.  Good luck and be happy with your little one.

I just wanted to update you on my situation.  After a week of waiting and watching my hcg levels go up, we went back to the doctor on Wednesday for an ultrasound.  And there's a baby!   We saw and heard the heartbeat and everything looked fine!!!   I measured at 7 weeks, 2 days.  My doctor's are very optimistic!  It's our miracle baby!!!

Hello,

You need to have a D&C as soon as possible to evaluate the tissue in your uterus.  Given how high the hCG is you are at a high risk of having a molar pregnancy (a condition of abnormal placental tissue, that can result in a cancer).  Even if this is benign, this is not a normal pregnancy and has no chance to be so.  Close follow up will be critical.

Your storry is unbelievable. I was thinking that something like this couldn`t happen in states like yours. I`m from Balcan. This is a big mistake. Firstably the surgery was made too early, they should wait a little. This is not ectopic pregnancy. Also if your hcg level is increasing it means that there are chanses. When there is a missed abortion the hcg level is decreasing. The main problem is that you don`t know exactly your last menstrual date and they don`t know the week of pregnancy. I think you should wait and make that ultrasound od feb 6. But you should know that there are also chanses for missed abortion.

Its probably to early to see anything but a sac at this point. Your levels are good I would wait and see what the next few weeks bring. Good Luck!

This is absolutely terrible, how can they make such a mistake. When u say u had surgery they obviously didnt remove anything then or what???
I am no expert but being honest and in my opinion it doesn't sound viable. I'm only going by experience as i have had 3 miscarraiges. I hope to be wrong but also if gest sac is strange shape think thats a sign too. If i am right, in theory u are still pregnant so your hormones will rise. I think you need to have a progesterone test to see level of that and although the gest sac is strange shape have they measured it?
