Glucose screening test

Hey I have my doctors appointment next week where im getting my glucose screening test done. When they do it I know I will drink the nasty drink thingy  and they will need to take some blood later but I have a question... Is it a ***** of the finger, is it just a regular blood drawing, an I.V.? I have heard some different things and I was just curious what to expect. Also does anyone have any tips to make it an easier visit? I heard it can be an uncompfortable one.

It tasted like an orange soda without sugar to me, it upset my stomach a little my bf was like if you throw it up you'll have to start all over again LOL... It wasn't bad they only took 1 vial of blood from me, I haven't heard anything from the dr so I figure that everything came back normal... Good Luck it'll be over before you know it.. Oh yeah you might want to fast from the night before depending on what time your appointment is ofcourse...

Same here...the drink isn't bad at all and its pretty small. You know those really tiny soda bottles they sell for kids? It's that size and like sweetangel said it tastes just like orange soda...very carbonated and very sweet. But if you're like me and love sweet things, it's not bad at all! You drink it within 5 minutes, wait an hour and they take blood from your arm usually. I think they took 3 tubes of blood from me. Its pretty quick and not uncomfortable at all. Just like getting regular blood taken.
If you fail the 1 hour, you have to take the 3 hour test which entails you to wait longer and drink twice as much. Good Luck, its not bad at all!

I did mine two weeks ago, and it was the same orange drink, and they took 5 vials of blood from me. It wasn't bad, but I hated waiting. I'm glad I passed because I wouldn't enjoy the 3 hour wait.

I did mine about a week ago, and the drink was like orange soda...I didn't think it was gross or too sweet.  It is carbonated, so it fills you up and you have to drink it all within five minutes, so don't drink anything else before you go or your belly will be really full.  I drank a bottle of water on my way to my appointment and the fullness of both drinks was the worst of it all for me (and that is not bad!).  After I drank the drank, I sat for an hour (bring something because you have to stay at the lab) and then they did two vials of blood.  Nothing about it was uncomfortable.  I think things have changed from the past and that is where these stories of it being gross and horrid are coming from.
