Has anyone else heard of this?

So I went in for my 36 week appt yesterday and she told me that I need to try my hardest to make it to 38 or 39 weeks. When I asked why she said it's because there's been a recent study that shows babies born before 38 weeks are more likely to have breathing problems. I never heard of that, I always thought if u made it to 37 weeks that ur baby was ok. Has anyone else been told this?

I think that if baby is born before 37 weeks or after it dosent mean there wont be complications, my daughter was born at 40+1 and she couldnt breath on her own it turned out that she had liquid in her lungs and she was with antibiotics in the nicu for a whole week, getting fed through a tube and connected to so many things

Wow that's crazy. I know that docs won't stop labor anytime after 34 weeks. But I wish my doc would be like that, to tell me whether or not the baby is ready and fully developed. I had to ask her to check my at my 36 week checkup and she wanted to know why and I said I wanna know if I'm close to labor or not. U must have good insurance lol cuz I thought my doc was great but so far every single appt is the same thing, check for heartbeat and measure my stomach. It gets boring after a while, makes me not even wanna go. And it seems like every appt she asks me the same 2 questions cuz she keeps forgetting even though she seen me a week prior. She asks how big was my last child and what hospital am i going to when I deliver. I tell her the same thing every time. She's not old she's only in her 40s but apparently bad memory

This is interesting to me too. My doctor just informed me that after 35 weeks, they wouldn't stop labor. I always thought that they stopped it (if possible) until you're atleast 37 weeks. I'm 36 weeks and he told me my boy is fully developed and actually suggested I try to self induce since his head is right there.

This is so interesting. I was really hoping to have him soon. I'm 36 weeks he is due nov. 24th. Oh well I guess I don't mind cuz if I want my doc to deliver him then I have to wait till she gets back from vacation which will be the 15th. That's 9 days before my due date

My doctor said the same and that she will only induce after 39 weeks bc baby is then fully developed.

Yes that's right 37 weeks is no longer considered "full term" because baby's have been born and still have under developed lungs although with pregnancy dates not being an exact science that's not always true but the chances if that happenening are very slim it is a possibility my ob is hoping I make it to 38 weeks as well because that week marks complete lung formation.
